More info at the Superhawkforum possibly .

It will be pro SH though and thats to be expected by the owners at any forum .

Count on 100 or so miles actual tank range .

Count on the timing chain tensioners failing above 10k miles somewhere .

Might could count on the cylinders getting oval at higher miles and burning oil depending .

Voltage regulator failure at inoppurtune times

Just a few of the problems they are known for as you asked about .

Water pump issues are all I know of. Watch for coolant seeping out of the weep hole on the bottom of the pump. Other than that, nothing. BUY ONE!!!!

You won't be sorry. It's the most underrated motorcycle I know of. If you've been riding i4s you're in for a real treat! It just pulls hard everywhere. Just what you need in a killer street bike!

Super fun to modify too!

I'm around 60K miles on my '98. At this point I've accumulated one rectifier, two headlights, four batteries, three sets of chain/sprockets, a barnett clutch (plates&springs only), three repairs of the waterpump overflow spring/seal and god knows how many tires.

I need to replace the clutch outer bearing and the weep hole one more time; might as well since I've got the cover off for the clutch. At some point, when I get off my lazy ass I'll just do a motor swap with a fresher one and rebuild the suspension. I'm not interested in re-boring the cylinders due to the design of the 'barrels'. They don't come off/apart individually so the jig has to hold both barrels and I've heard of people getting bad bores. For ~$800 a motor swap is cheaper than a re-boring job. The bike will be practically good as new then...

Mods consist of Devil Ti slipons with a proper re-jetting and a four degree ignition advance.

The bike is an absolute hoot to ride, too bad it sits idle most of the time while the RC gets ridden now.

Get it, you'll love it. Agreed that it's the most underrated bike around.

reliability is great... agreed.

Every shop I went to to check out the bay for SH's... not a one to be found...

So I asked... .. their response.....

" Only time we see SH's in here is routine maintenance and tire changes"

I owned a 98 for about 4 years and put around 25k miles on it. I did nothing but change the oil, add gas, and change tires as upkeep. It never missed a beat. I sold it for financial reasons. I now have an RC51 and would love to have another Superhawk (also) for more lengthly rides. Yes, the RC51 is faster and better handleing, but for the money a Superhawk is great.
