Default Ohlins shock or rebuild stock shock?

About 1500 miles ago I rebuilt the forks with RaceTech stiff springs and gold valves and couldn't be happier. I've toyed with the idea of putting an ohlins or penske rear shock on but do not know if I want to spend between 800-1200 bucks. Has anyone rebuilt the stock shock w/racetech valves/new spring? I mainly ride this on the street but have been to a several track days on it...but track duty is mainly reserved for the RC now.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

30 lashing with a wet noodle!!!!!

its hard to wrong with th ohlins. add to that you'll be able to adjust the ride height. seems rebuilding the stock is like polishing a turd. deals can be found on the shocks you just have to look. got mine, with a kyle link for 600 bucks

But this is where your advice falls short: used ohlins FOR A SUPERHAWK are extremely rare.

Hawkman, you should post your question over on superhawkforum.com as I'm sure someone there has done a rebuild.

I've done a Racetech shock kit and it works superbly. You're not going World Superbike racing, right?

As with all things, its important to follow the directions to a "T" and be honest with your assessment of your riding style and capabilities.

Do it yourself or, if you're not comfortable with this type of work, find a capable technician. Using a technician, you should get away with the works for no more than $350-400.

Thanks for the input. I have the RC for pushing hard....the hawk may see one trackday a year if lucky. I liked the racetech kit for the forks, gave enough performance for street while helping at the track. I figured rear would do the same. I know a $1200 ohlins would work great and be a trick piece on the hawk.
