Default fork mod questions

If I feel My front has to much compression, will I be able to adjust in less compression without compromising firmness with stock forks?
If I install Race tech gold valves will I really get that much better adjustability?
Will this mod affect the springs action?
If I Install a more "progressive fork Spring tailored to my weight will I have to change the shock spring to mach sag?
I've owned my VTR since July this year and have always ridden 70's machines and lived without adjustability of any real type. I have set the suspension to the settings given on the Sport Rider web sight... Front Preload 4 lines showing,
Front Rebound Damping 1 turn out, Rear Preload #3, Rear Rebound Damping .5 turns out. This is much better than when I got it but I still feel a stiff jolt in front while going over sharp bumps.

Well, how big are you? That'd help a bit.
I'm 185lbs without gear and thought the front springs were too soft. I had replaced them with .85 racetechs, and set the sag with the preloads in the middle of thier adjustment range. That was good, but needed more. I should have gone with the cartridge emulators, but changed the whole works instead.
My advice: Do racetech spring for your weight, and the cartridge emulators with 7wt oil.
