the stuff i've used is some crazy autobody shiat... it's actually green. but after 20 mins it just turns to dust when you sand it. i'm not sure about the bondo brand stuff.

either way, props to you for doing this all yourself, bodywork is the worst!

ya this is just regular ole whatchamahcallit brand, nothing fancy... thanks though, sometimes i doubt my career choice (nursing), but then again id rather enjoy doing this as a hobby than work in a shop and end up hating it

i don't know how you find it enjoyable... it's so frustrating to work and work and work and sand and sand and sand, only to throw a guide coat on and see there are thousands of little imperfections. filler primer is your best friend haha

i honestly think it's the most frustrating thing ever. i do enjoy spraying though.

ok i made a white lie, haha... i see things through rosy colored glasses lol

the frustration is gonna be tomorrow when i start looking for all the little imperfections (took most of them out today, but there ALWAYS more lurking around)

imma go vegetate and watch some tv, laters dude

the best way to find imperfections is with a guide coat... ie blow primer on and everything will become way more obvious. then just a bit of glazing putty and sanding.

day eight

finished the tank and got everything ready for paint

day nine

started laying the basecoat in the morning, was 97degree's w/ 18% humidity when i got done so perfect weather to bake the coat on there!

gas tank didnt come out as nice as i wanted it, has a couple imperfections but the paint is a generic paint which can be matched up easily in the future so a new tank can be done no problem

gonna lay the clear tomorrow

nope, this paint needs to be completely dry before the clearcoat... ive got a 24hour window so figured id take advantage of it by shooting in the morning and not bake myself in the booth lol

i was under the impression that clear goes on when the paint is still tacky-ish... less chipping and such... are you doing a light wetsand before clear?

it all fuses together as long as your within the time window... best way to avoid chipping is by not caking a bunch of layers on, i did 4 coats of base and 5 of clear, and thats kind of on the boarder of just right/too much, in my opinion ofcourse... no wetsanding of basecoat, its good for clear after a tacky rag thing (brainfarting and forgot whats its called) to get the dust off

thanks man, it looks killer already... im not gonna make it too crazy w/ stickers or different paint, i was actually debating on putting number plates on the upper and tail but decided to keep it simple

day 9 and 10

shot clear on day 9, let cure til day 10...
got a bunch of runs on the tail and a couple on the tank, upper had a little orangepeel here and there... so busted out the water and wetsanded all the issues, reshot 3more coats of clear on sanded area's... came out bitchen!!

only thing i really really REALLY hated was some wind kicked up out of no where and got in the booth a little, threw some specks on the tail... not too many but enough to make cuss for 5min

gonna wetsand w/ 1500 or 2000 grit and polish everything up... no more pictures til the bike is assembled just to build that suspense haha

so finally got done!!!!!!1

was way too busy w/ school so i couldnt find the time to finish things up but finally did yesterday and today... battery would not hold a charge so i didnt ride it to any places w/ a nice background, just ended up rolling it in my ghetto ass alley lol

im still waiting for a pair of "HRC" stickers to go on top of the front turn signals or on bottom front part of the tail

im pretty happy w/ the paint job, it just has a couple spots im upset about, but nothing that can be seen from a couple feet away... woulda probably perfect if i had a proper paint booth, but oh well, make the best w/ what you got, right?

anyways, let me know what you guys think!
