I decided to get a set of the GP cans so I ordered a set of slip on mid pipes from Akro to meet up to the new pipes from the OEM headers. One came (left), the right side was backordered.
Here is the difference between the TwoBros mid pipe and the Akro’s.
Then one day, while looking at the bike next to a CBR1000RR at the shop, I noticed that the plastics seam like they could fit so when I got home that night I took a picture of my old bike’s bodywork and pasted it over the picture of my bike without plastics and for my surprise it felt right on; but that’s a picture, I couldn’t wait to back to the shop the next day to try it.
My plan was to meet the OEM upper with the CBR1000RR lowers and bellypan. Removed the radiators and made some HRC style once our of foam to be sure that there was going to be clearance between them and the new bodywork
As I mounted the lower with very minimum modification done to them I noticed that the upper and the ram air almost meet….Hmmm…and I wondered. So called the other shop and found another set of rash bodywork (upper and left fairing)
Fit the lowers but noticed that they were too long so they were too close to the ground so once installed I removed one inch from the mids to bring the belly up
I took the undertail that I did out of aluminum before and decided to make it out of fiberglass to learn how and hopefully to cover all those ugly wires that were showing under the seat.
But first, I needed to remove those passenger peg tabs to get a cleaner look and a higher pipe without having to get the typical “S” like bent on the pipes. Remove the tabs, drilled the subframe and installed inserts to mount OEM style aftermarket pipe hangers.
Then removed the tip at the end of the upper by the windscreen because I didn’t like the pointy aspect of it, way to close to the only part of my body that’s not covered by leather (neck)
Taped the primed area and sprayed with flat black the inner plastics as well as the section of the plastics that leads towards the inside of the fairing too.
Re-installed the upper and lower but more work was needed to bring the lowers up one more inch so I cut the upper even higher to get me the clearance required
Then is time to spray some paint.
Once more I went to Home Depot but this time I wanted something closer to the OEM paint and with some gloss to it so I got it
