well seeing as everyone is doing a winter project, i figured i would show what ive been doing during the off season as a past time.
here are pics of 3 of the 4 models ive been working on. the fourth one is the 2002 Repsol RC211V but some pieces were misplaced and as a result it remails in pieces.
#6 Makoto Tamada
#74 Daijiro Kato (RIP)
guess who's this (didnt finish the fairings yet so no upper cowl)
and here's some upclose pics to show the detail i put in to prove that it was made by me.
there's 4 styles of carbon fibre waterslides used in the making of most of these bikes. Exhausts were also heat stained using my airbrush and some pastels, and also slightly hand painted.
i also picked one of these up locally today. can't wait to finish up the current kits so i can start on it.
Unfortunately the temperature outside is hiting close to the -30 mark on some days so i can't pull out the airbrush or spray cans to paint as it is too cold
haven't done much, just painted the levers and such, and finished the piping on the Konica Minolta bike. i think i'll finish this bike up first before finishing up the rest as the other 3 are still awaiting paint and a replacement sheet of decals
OK... how do you get the brazing effect on the pipes? I just can't seem to get this to look good with the airbrush alone.... it's one of the things that bothers me. Pastels?

i tend to use a combination of both. i use airbrush to lightly set the blue, purple, orange and yellow, and use darker pastels to dirty it up and blend it in. i actually found a tamiya weathering kit locally and picked it up last week. since its too cold to airbrush at the moment i tried using the weathering kit to stain the exhaust. it didnt come out as great as if i used an airbrush but it was a pretty good alternative. i have some pics of it i'll post it later on today.
thanks for those links simon! i used to have those links when i did the '03 Repsol RC211V Valencia last year but they didnt get saved when i reformatted my computer. ive been looking for that last link for a while.
unfortunately im not as hardcore as those builders and can't afford 300 bucks for the white metal kits. i was tempted to buy the gsxr1000 enduro kit by model factory hiro but ended up against it since i have no experience with white metal.
here are the pics of the exhaust pieces i 'heat stained' with the tamiya weathering kit. i got impatient waiting for the weather to warm up so i just tried this out. as you can tell its not as realistic but its not a bad alternative.
before: this is after the plastic piece was primed and sprayed with alcad duraluminum. i had sprayed this a while back.
no probs!
you have a good talent for model making
ive been doing that since i was about 6 years old,and its such a great hobby(havent made any for a long time, but will again in the future)
do a search for tamiya on youtube
there are some unreal things there, and maybe you can pick up a few new ideas from japanese model makers
Awesome. That's the effect I haven't been able to achieve yet, although honestly I have only built 2 bikes so far. I'll check out YouTube as well and see what I can find...
after a long hiatus the weather has warmed up so i was able to pull out the airbrush and work some more on the bikes. i also started the rc30 cause working on 3 of the same bikes can get a bit boring.
i've also managed to nearly finish up the telefonica bike.
the front rim and rotors of the RC30 painted up. this kit is a bit more challenging as almost all the engine parts and such are black, not to mention the kit is as old as me (made in 1988).
