OK... new question. How are you detailing in between the body panels? Are you using a brush application after the body paint is applied?

the panel lines are done after i paint the body. what i usually do is take a dark paint, and thin it probably 1:1 or more, and let the paint run into the panel lines. i usually use smoke paint, or some type of black paint.

once the paint has dried, i use a q-tip/cotton swap LIGHTLY dipped in thinner and quickly wipe over the excess. if you use this method i suggest using new cotton swabs after 4 or 5 strokes cause they dont really work very well after that.

another method would be to use some sort of rubbing compound on a cloth and rubbing off the excess, but be careful not to put too much on the cloth or it could end up collecting in the panel lines.

OK. The cotton q-tip is the clutch part here. I messed around a little on some old bodies, but could never get the excess off without stripping the body coat at the same time which looked terrible. I'll give that a crack on the 250 GTO I'm about to get started on as soon as I decide which paint scheme to use.

Oh... how big is your collection right now by the way? Seems you can crank these things out way faster than the current few-a-year-when-I-find-time pace I'm on... I'd love to see some pics of the more obscure cars you have like that RX7.

use acrylic tamiya paint and either water or acylic thinners as a thinner
wont harm the enamel

yup, like simon said, if youre having trouble with enamel reacting with your body paint, try switching to acrylic. the nice thing about acrylic paint is that regardless of the paint below, the acrylic thinner is usually pretty safe and doesnt react with whatever's below it, which is why i've transitioned from using enamel paint to acrylic paints for most of my models (plus they dont smell as much)

I now use Tamiya acrylic paints with tamiya acrylic paint thinner. most of my body paints are usually lacquer or acrylic. i don't use enamel anymore.

i usually only make 1 or 2 kits per year, but with the recession this year ive had more time on my hands than usual. in the past few years i've made tanks, ships and jets as well as cars and motorbikes. when i have time i'll take a few pics of my collection and post them up
