Wibbly,I see that you mounted a K&N filter directly to the fitting on the front valve cover. I tried that,it's dangerous! The engine breaths pretty hard, and oil mist collects in the breather filter. After awhile,a puddle of oil will start to run down the inside of your fairing, eventually working it's way back to your rear tire. I took the stock hose that ran from the valve cover to the little plastic catch tank under the air box and rotated it 180degrees clockwise. I routed it past the radiator, and between the inner and outer fairing panels on the right side. Then mounted the K&N on top of it. This routing will allow the oil mist some time to form drops and run back down the hose into your engine. You'll have to clean the filter about every month,or you'll notice a bit of oil mist on the top edge of your right fairing. Thought I'd let you know. I didn't want to hear that you'd crashed because of that, after putting all that work into your bike. Good Luck with your build! Looking good so far.

thanks for the info! did you keep the baffle in your valve cover? or axe it completely....

to be honest i don't quite understand why you'd need a breather on the front valve cover and not the rear... could i just block this off completely?

Wibbly,I left the baffling in the valve cover, there's oil flinging around up there, and that baffling helps to knock down that oil so too much doesn't escape out the breather. The engine only needs that one breather port on the front valve cover. When I installed my Factory Pro Evo 7 quickshift kit,I had to remove the right side engine cover. You can see the cam drives running all the way up to both heads. Behind the clutch basket, there's an opening that leads to the sump. So all that internal air trapped inside the engine is common, and it all breathes at that one port. That's why the engine needs only the one breather port. DO NOT BLOCK THAT PORT OFF!!! Stick your hand an inch in front of your face, and breath quickly in and out. That's what's going on inside your engine. If you blocked that port off, you'd start blowing out your engine's gaskets and seals. Also, the pistons would be fighting against that trapped air and compressing it,slowing the engine down, and losing you horsepower. By allowing the internal engine to breath freely,HP that would be lost fighting against that compressing action can now be used to motivate you forward, and that's what you want. I'm actually going to remove that stock hose, and contact Samco Sport for some Red flexible hose to match my radiator hose kit. Maybe I'll notch out the right fairing slightly so the breather tucks in a bit nicer. Just some food for thought. Keep your pics coming,I'm interested to see how your build turns out.

seems an odd spot for a full system breather.

if it spits a bit of oil i'm not really concerned... this bike will be getting washed all the time... and based on how LITTLE oil there was in the hose that drains the canister after 45000kms i can't see it making a mess... and given that the rest breathes to the airbox and the bike uses almost no oil in my 3000km oil change intervals i can't see there really being that much coming out.

if it DOES make a big mess, i'll change it, but if not i'll leave it on. i can't stand hoses all over the place

left side painted

upper again

tank all decaled up and ready for clear

tailsection (done slightly differently than colin's, but this bike is by no means an EXACT replica, i made changes where i wanted)

another view of tail

fender

the painter (fisheyes are hilarious)

so that's it for now... jamie (the painter duh) is spraying clear as we speak so i'll be installing all the plastics tomorrow and will take more pics as it goes...

all in all i think it turned out pretty well... considering i did all the taping, most of the decal application (all except the tank), and the whole layout myself. obviously there are flaws but for the most part it turned out quite well.

keep posting! haha
