Talking my first bike

Hi all I just bought a 2005 RC51. Allways wanted a motorcycle and finally have one. She came with the paintjob from my dealer in Fort lauderdale.

Congratulations Bro'. That looks clean. I don't mean to sound like a Safety Nazi, but you did mention this is your FIRST bike. That is a lot of bike for a First bike - unless of course you are not a new rider.

Anyway - enjoy the RC, and welcome to the mad club Learn the pig in your own time and enjoy the experience.

Default FIRST bike

Yeah this is my first bike. I haven't ridden anything bigger than a moped or 80cc dirt bike on two wheels.

Welcome aboard.

Heed the warnings above. I am happy for you. The RC-51 is such a unique bike, especially for a production Japanese bike. Respect the power, it can bite...hard!

It would be a shame to mess up the fantastic paint job.... .

Later.......

Ok nice bike but for gods sakes move the FRAME SLIDER . Frame sliders are ment to save the tank and frame. Placement to low will increase the chances of damage to those areas. Also get the number off the lites so you don't get jammed up by the local PD. Let me know if you want my Yosh carbons for 500. New September this year.

Welcome.

Thanks for the warm welcome. yes the bike was at rick case that's where i got it. Far as I know it is the only red bull race replica in florida. I'm making an appointment today to take my motorcycle license test. Soon as i have it i will be happy to join up with you all for rides. Am moving from Davie to Coral Springs in the new year. As far as the frame sliders I am having higher ones installed soon enough but these actually work pretty good as I have put her down slowly but painfully twice thus far. Actually need to buy a new mirror thinking of going with these http://www.lockhartphillipsusa.com/rs/showProduct.cgi

from lockhartphillips. Any suggestions on other mirrors i may want to look in to?

Are you using the 51 for the road test? Probably not a great idea

take it easy bro. Its more painfull (physically & emotionally) when you drop the bike in a not so slow fashion.....

Taking it very easy, smart enough to know I know very little about riding "real" bikes. Have no real choice but to use the 51 for the test being that it is my only bike and no one I know has a moped handy.

here in cali they make you go around a circle a couple of times. the grid looks like a giant lollypop. The minute you put your foot down on the ground, you fail.

when making the circle - practice looking ahead of the turn (where you look is where you will go), put some weight on the opposite side of the turn (turning right - weight on the left), use your clutch to play with the speed of the bike and use the rear brake so that you won't upset the bikes suspension when doing the turn.

there are a couple of articles in motorcycle mags about making u-turns (going around in a tight circle). Check out your local bookstore for riding books. They have some better pointers there.

good luck and enjoy!

RC51 first bike? Oh my God. Not just the power but this is not a beginners bike on any level.
I've had eight bikes in the last twelve years with ove 100,000 miles. This bike is without a doubt the most difficult bike to ride well and at the same time the most rewarding and fun to ride. Be careful out there.

I learned how to ride with the Rc51 and I got my licence with it a month later. No lie it was hard as hell it took me 3 tries to get my licence tho. I have riden other bikes and none feel as good as the RC best feel from a bike than any new 1k bike IMO

I too learned how ride on an RC, it took me 2 tries and practicing on the course for a total of 7 hours and both of each of my palms was one big blister but I have a class M on my license. If I had to do it again I would have just rented something smaller. BTW they had to increase the size of the course for me and others riding 1000 cc bikes because it was impossible to make the u turn while staying within the lines and missing a cone is almost mandatory for passing everything else was easy, if you live in Illinois you'll understand about the course.
