I need to remove my rear lower shock links their are two. The bike will be on a rear stand. My question is will these links be under pressure from the shock and weight of the bike? The answer is probly yes, but what do I need to do to position the bike or using a jack stand to remove these links without something surprising me when I take the bolts loose. I am installing Soupys lowering links.
Yea, I'm getting a lot of that.
My height is not an issue. I just like the look of a lowered bike.
I had a 900RR years ago and it was lowered and it really didn't affect my driving at all.
I was a staunch member of the lowered bike = shit handling club for a long while. And then something funny happened...
I quit my shit talking and actually rode a lowered bike. Guess what?
It wasn't really that bad. No, you couldn't rail a canyon, but that was primarily due to lack of ground clearance. There weren't any bad habits or tendencies, and other than being able to flat foot both feet with bent knees, it didn't really feel any different than a bike sitting at normal ride height. Turn in was a wee bit slower but at the lower speeds I was going due to reduced ground clearance, it wasn't an issue.
Personally, I feel that lowering an RC51 is sacrilegious, but it's your bike so do whatever you want. And to answer your question, YES, bad shit will happen if you remove the bolts with it on a rear stand. Get some straps and suspend the rear of the bike by the rear sets because you need to take the weight off the rear suspension.
Like I said, just depends on how you ride. I didn't like the way the bike handled stock and do nothing but carve in the mountains, so for me that'd be a big issue. I have to sit side saddle in mine, especially with the suspension done. If you don't ride the twisties all the time or plan on tracking it, may not be an issue. For me, it'd be a problem. I assumed the same about sneaky because I remember his bike picture showed him wearing a one piece.
