Default CBR600RR coil mod wiring?

Hello all. For those of you who have already done this, could you help me with wire color matching when I splice my '51 couplers to the CBR sticks? I know I have a 50% chance of getting it right, but I don't wanna roll the dice.

Am I right to just match the black wires together and

colored wires together, regardless of their color?

Thank you for your help!!

Thanks guys!

And yes, I have the part numbers. They're listed in another post if you wanna search. If you don't want to it's basically (off the top of my head, so no part numbers right now):
  • '04+ CBR600RR coil sticks with harness. You can get these on ebay or locally for $50 to $60 or so including the harness
  • Nippon Denso IK27 plugs x2. NOBODY carries ND plugs here in SoCal that I could find, not even Honda dealers. I had to special order them.
Remove your stock coil assys and splice the wires and that's it, so it seems. I'm gonna be splicing later today, so we'll see.

Thanks again.

While I'm not totally against this, I don't have a lathe at home nor do I wanna pay someone to cut down the NGK plugs I currently own.

When you say "right", are you implying that the ND IK27 plug is wrong? According to the FSM, the IK27 is for SP1s, but it should work fine for the SP2 as well, no? Is the heat number wrong? Both the NGK and ND are iridium plugs...

Actually the tool pressure required to cut threads would break the porcelan. (threads must be cut in one pass with the power feeds set-up)

So what you are looking at is a series of v-grooves 60 deg. .030 deep with .030 spacing after the plug tip was turned to .150, If you hold the part in your hand you'd swear they were threads.

B.T.W. I'll be doing a box of these sometime after I get the mod done.

I see. But either way, you'd need a lathe to do such things, right? And how much would you be asking for your modded NGK plugs?

As far as I can tell "ZILLA" is a non-profit bunch.

When/If I do this mod and get a box done $14.49 ea. + tax + shipping

Default Spark Plug Warning !!!

Just an update for those that don't already know:

DO NOT buy the Honda OEM Nippon Denso IK27 plugs for this mod! The terminals DO NOT screw off!

In other words, don't buy Honda p/n: 98079-5915U. IK27C11 Iridium.

I'm thinking, but haven't personally confirmed, that the only IK27 plugs that will have threaded terminals are the Nippon Denso AFTERMARKET IK27 plugs. Or at least, that's what I'm assuming from the info in other posts.

Can anyone confirm that the AFTERMARKET ND IK27 plugs have threaded terminals?

I started this movement with the replacement of the coils and i did the research with all plugs manufactures. there's nothing out there that fits the RC51 other then those plugs with the tip worked (cut down).

you need to get those to do the job.

Based on everything I have read about this mod (on this forum), I have decided to try it on my (modded) VTR1000. Fortunately, the spark plugs used on it already have a threaded small diameter at the top. Looking forward to getting it all hooked up.

the aftermarket IK27s do have threaded terminals, but come gapped at 0.8mm so will need adjusting.

Default Update

Per Wingnutt's specs, I just had a local guy turn down my plug terminals to .150. No threads or cuts, just turned down. I asked him to make sure the terminal was a little rough, and that's all the friction it needed for a tight grip on the boots.

Thank you all for your tips and help!
