Default Front sprocket width

I am sure that this has been dealed with here earlier but could not dig out the relevant post with search.

The question is whether the smaller width of a 520 front sprocket compared to the original 530 (with rubber damper center) requires some special attention ? An additional shim or something ?

When installing the new 520 front sprocket I noticed that it remains sideways slightly loose on the shaft even with the bolt tightened according to the spec. Is this ok ?

All aftermarket front sprockets will have some play in them. You're fine...

I've installed 520 kits on both my Gixxer and my RC and neither of them have any play what-so-ever.

Put the 520 on. No shimming required. It looks "smaller" due to none of the noise reducing rubber. The center shank is the same width.

Default More experience on front sprockets ?

Thanks guys !

The axial (sideways) free play is not big, but noticeable by hand because the bolt and the washer will not press tightly enough onto the "thinner" sprocket.

However, if you consider the forces that are created onto the sprocket during acceleration or engine braking, it is clear that it is the splines and only the splines that will and can take that torque up and even if the
sprocket would be pressed very tightly sideways, if there would be any backslash in the splines the sprocket would move back and forward under those high forces.

I am only worried whether the free play could allow the sprocket to vibrate or something and cause the shaft to wear down ?

But I assume that because this has not been an issue in this forum, it propably is not a problem. The shaft is propably well hardened stuff much harder than the sprocket itself.

Maybe somebody with a higher mileage "loose" 520 front sprocket could still confirm this ?

Mines not "high mileage" but I have 2500 miles with a 520 sprocket, and a large portion of that is track riding (beaten like a rented mule) with no ill effects, additional play or problems, regarding the front sprocket.
