Suzuka Endurance Tail Lights Replica project

So its actually been several years in the making. The prototyping has been the most pain staking. Many many failures to get here, lost track how many to be exact and don't care to add up the bills either....

It is a slight variation of the suzuka endurance tail light since it is made for the stock tail section shape. The bottom portion is also different in that it retains a strip of the fairing plastic to allows for greater strength in the tail section. Removing as much plastic as the genuine endurance tail would leave the rail end of the fairing to sway in the breeze and be prone to breakage.

The LEDs are red-orange Philips automotive grade used in OE equipment. The driver is voltage regulated and pulse width modulated for dimming purposes instead of resistor regulated for efficiency. They are hella bright! Might even add a feature for single sided signal light function.

As with anything custom and hand made there are a few compromises and minor imperfections. Not of real functional or esthetic consequence imo.

Edit I would like to add photos but can't.... they are ~81 kb and less tahn 800x800.... never mind what a run around.... had to make an album add the photos there and then come back and edit the thread and add the links...

The prototype was a combination of acrylic and resins. The working set is made from polyurethane.

Couple variations on the clear tail. One is a red tint and the other is a dark tint. Both look great!

Some Alpha and Beta testing.

The fist pic is just of the PCB's that I designed and the other shows them populated with the components. The top set is what I tested the circuit design with to see if it all worked as it needed to... and it did so I sent away for custom PCB fabrication. The test set has 24 LED's and the PCB mounted ones have 20.

I will be mounting the LED clusters in plastic as the test set is and then fixing them to the actual lenses. Probably have that done within the next couple weeks. Pics to follow.
