Default Ruined compression= 1500$??

Ever since I bought my R6 there was this clicky noise, and recently it has lost a considerable amount of power(acceleration and top speed). The bike bogs when I pined the throttle, or tried to go over 8 thou. So I took it in and they said one of the 4 compression cylinders is not working correctly, and it could have been caused by a lose bolt. He said I was looking at 1500 - 2000 $ in damage repair. I asked some friends and they explained how compression works to me, and I couldn't fathom how it's that much. I only payed 5 600 for the bike (2000), there was 29k Km on it; although that may explain why the compression went on it.

I cashed in my plates and garaged it, I don't think it's a good idea to drive it until I fix it. It still has value.

Someone let me know if I am being told the wrong info by yamaha.

Did the shop find low compression as the result of a leakdown test? If so, the labor to breakdown and rebuild a motor is expensive, esp at a stealership. A smaller shop might charge closer to $1000.00 You are probably better off simply replacing the motor. The cost of a used motor should be less than the cost to repair your damaged motor- depending on availability. Check Ebay or local motorcycle salvage yards for a motor with low mileage.

That is a good idea, but will other year models fit the 2000? And I'm cautious with the ebay thing because I just got screwed on this bike and it would be ironic to have it happen again.

Also, a lot of the people selling motors are saying that it does not include a stator and cover. Now, could I just use mine>? I'm not really familiar to what a stator is to be honest.

Yes you can use yours. The stator cover is often damaged in a crash, as the metal is soft and grinds down quickly. Better to buy an engine from a salvage due to damaged plastics or frame damage. Keep looking. They are out there.
