Contemplating 06 750
I currently have an 03 RC but I really like the 750 and I'm getting more into cornering than I thought I would so I figure it would be a good upgrade. I'm trying to decide if I want to sink money into the suspension for the RC or if I should just get a better platform to work with. I haven't done any track days yet, but plan to. Anyway, I have a couple of questions concerning the 06 750:
Does the 06 750 require suspension work like the RC (reworked forks/new shock)? What rider weight is good for the stockers?
Also, they seem to be flying out of the dealerships around here, so should I expect to pay full price?
I would appreciate any advice.
Ryan

Just sold my 04 RC and picked up a new 05 gixx 1000. All I can say is you will not regret switching. Do it!!!!! These things are so light and everything is better than the 51.

Why not have your cake and eat it too? I own both an '06 RC-51 and an '06 GSX-R750 (which is my second Gixxer 750 by the way, I sold my '00 to buy this one). 2 bikes is better then one. Heck 4 bikes is better then 2.

I own both. The RC is super stable and also requires more input to turn. The 750 is so nimble you can easily over do it. It is very very fast and its weight is part of why its so fast and nimble. Acceleration is nice when kept above 6k. It gets on the pipe near 8500 til redline.
Now I am not sure if you knew the foot pegs and shifter are adjustable. It has a 2 trip Odo's and a reserve odo. Tacometer is easy to read at speed. This thing has a shift light for petes sake. The signals are integrated and the plate/fender is a few bolts and poof gone. Even the stock exhaust isn't bad. All cool
Those foot pegs need to go. Everytime I set up the peg rolled up. Satos are on now. The suspension will work for the street but the shock is at its limits at 195#. So yes you need to replace the spring at least. The front feels vague and I really think the lack of feed back is the valving. So plan on a cartridge kit. I think the springs may be close but they are a tad soft ( might be progressive ). The tires suck at any pressure below 35 rear and 36 front. This could be part or due to the vague front feedback. This suks because the bike carves. It would be better if I could feel more. It also gets hot. Easily 220 but cools fast.

I'm also interesed in the gixxer 750.
When it comes to I4's, I have owned a CBR929rr, and liked it.
I have ridden a 600rr, but didn't like the lack of low end torque. (Probably because I have a 51).
I have ridden a '05 CBR1000rr, and liked it, but I thought it had far more power than I could ever use. (Probably because I have a 51).
I have not ridden a gixxer1000, but if it has even more power than the CBR1000, then I'm not going to consider it.
What did you guys consider when going with the 750 instead of the 1000?

There's probably only one other class of bikes that one can compare the 750 to. The 1 liter class 4's. In fact, I have ridden my brother's 929 on numerous occasions and it was a great street bike. I't amazing how much better the stock 750 handles due to the lighter weight. The actual hp output of the new 750 might be just a tad more that the older (5years) 1000's ?
You'll love it.

i wish i can have both bike.. but due to money issue... i can only have one.... i just trade in my first bike.... and got the 07 GSXR 750.... i love both bike... miss the RC's torque... but love the weight and every other thing about the 750... only been riding that thing for two day... and i am already loving it ... need to get over with that break in 600mile crap ... and i will discover more about the 750...
my old RC was like a piece of crap... nothing is right on the bike.. so when i hop on the 750... it feels like honda civic compare to a Lexus... shift light, time, two odo, and the best thing... gear indicator... omg... that thing works good... especially for a new rider like me... aways forget what gear i am in... the stock exhust sounds nice... the gas mileage on the 750... are better than my RC too....
so if you are considering getting a 750..i dont think you can go wrong with it...

No Doubt! If you could only have 1 bike that can do it all better then the rest the GSX-R750 is the one. Just wait till you get up into the 10000+RPM range.
You'll unleash the Beast that resides from deep within that motor.
Its freakin Awesome!!!! Just be careful. Its ALOT of power and ALOT of speed so you need to make sure nothing can jump out in front of you cuz your reaction time is like the blink of an eye when your up in that upper rev range.

I have a K6 750. And it is in the process of becoming a track bike. It is amazing on the track, so easy to throw around with awesome power. The suspension is fine for the street but if you are going to do a lot of track riding then it will require some suspesion work and definatly new tires.
I rode the 750 for about 2000 miles on the street and it is a fine street bike, but the reason that I am taking it off the road and setting it up for track only is because I also have a Ducati 999S and I prefer a twin on the street. For me, I like having the low end torque of a twin for street riding, it is much more rider freindly and easy to ride both around town and in the twisties.
But I also ride a twin on the track, and like that for its own reasons too.
Your best bet would be to try to find someone that will let you ride their 750 and see how it feels to you. Both are incredible bikes and will make awesome street bikes. If you want something that is a bit lighter and corners a little easier, then the K6 750 will make an awesome bike for you, but the RC is no slouch either, it is also an incredible machine that also has plenty of power, with a lot of low end, and still handles extremly well.

Thanks for all the replies
Wow, I had stopped checking this thread because I didn't think anybody was replying to it after gsxrsex. Thanks all. The 750 sounds like a great bike, but like 999Srider said, I'd like to ride one first. I'd sure hate get rid of my RC because of the extreme enjoyment I get out of riding it. I also just saw the thread for the 07 ZX6R and that is a sick lookin bike too. I know I know, this is the GSXR forum, but hey, I like'em all!

I'd say too it's not an either/or .
A well done modified RC51 is faster than a GSXR (track and road ), has way more power and way less weight - but we're talking about serious amounts of money for modification of the RC then . If you'd compare both with std. kind of tuning , means both with weight loose/power increase of avarage 10 % , then I'd choose the GSXR for track , the RC for road .
