Motul 15w45 is what has always been recommended to me due to it's resistance to foaming; don't remember the price but it's not cheap.

Mobil1 Racing 4T 10w-40... readily available at your local auto parts store or Walmart for about $10/quart.

K&N oil filter #153... local auto parts store (usually overnight delivery) $12-15. Has 17mm nut for easy replacement

I think it is up to your belief what works best.

I use Castrol Edge because the tuner recommended it. But I have used Castrol RS4T, cheap Hein Gericke and Louis (discount companies) oil, Motul... I change it regularly which I think is more important than having the most expensive oil you can buy. The expensive ones are said to have better additives, but the cheap stuff is not going to kill your engine imo.

Spend your money on the boutique brands.

Or, simply buy Shell Rotella T or Mobil Delvac 15w40 for half the price and the same or better protection. Two guesses what I've been using for 23000 miles.

And you dare question the authenticity of that recommendation?

Ah yes, the dreaded oil thread....

Use whatever you want. I've used 15W50 Mobil 1 in both my RC51 for 45k kilometres (25,000 miles) and my 999 for 12k km (7,500 miles). Its great and costs only about 7 bucks a litre. Not sure it has anything to do with the oil but I've yet to have to adjust a valve on either bike.

Unlikely...

If you had bearing failures or massive metal chips in your changed oil, then you should worry.

26K mi. 1/3 of them track miles with no issues. I've used many different types. Use the recommended viscosity regardless of the brand and change it often.

hello peter,
after much research, i settled on motul 7100 4t full synthetic in 10w-40 weight. used in my 4v 749 and now my 2v 900ss/cr. $12.95/qt

saw your belt question. ducati's can be expensive at todays' shop rates hovering at $1.25/minute or so. i can wrench a little, so i do everything except valve check/shim.
