Honing nikasil cylinders
Hello gang: I need some advise from experts.
I have had an eBay seller suggest that I accept a badly scoured 900SS front cylinder marked "B" honed to accept a piston marked "C" that he sent as part of a good "set" of two cylinders and pistons. Yes, the scouring in deep; see the photo attached.
I have my opinion about this suggestion, based on what I have read.
Is this something that should be done?
Thanks for your comments.

I think your looking at spending some money on that cylinder in my opinion.Nikasile is a coating and not a very deep one. It is honed with diamond tooling. With those score marks I can't see you getting a good ring seal. There are companies that will cut the old coating off re coat and re hone and size the cylinder to your piston.
my two cents I'm not an expert

I'll provide an alternate viewpoint.
Lighting can sometimes make things look worse than they are. You can have Nikasil coated cylinders that don't look so good to the eye, but in reality they aren't that bad.
But I learned the hard way once already that you need to get your cylinders replated to get a good ring seal.

It's hard to be sure without getting a fingernail in there, but my thoughts would be: not in a million years. Even if you can avoid honing thru the nycosil (and it's probably thru now) what you will be left with will be so thin it will never hold up.

More comments please
I appreciate the comments so far. My real question is (the crux of the problem), if you were sent one very nice B vertical cylinder with a B piston that looked OK, plus the B horizontal cylinder shown in the photo (the scouring is very rough using fingernails) along with a C piston that had no similar damage (that is a bit odd, isn't it?), would you consider this to be a "good set"? Would you be satisfied with your purchase?
As happens, the comments are going somewhat off track, but they do seem to say that this cylinder/piston is not readily usable as is. All I really wanted was two good cylinders. This is what I got. I did not want to be sending parts out for repairs, using more time and expense and.....
When I asked the seller why he did this he gave me the classic "sorry about this, I did have some extra pistons around, and I thought sent you the right ones." He then suggested if I did not want to hone the cylinder [for the C piston?] that I could return only the damaged ONE. I sent all parts back to him, packed very well, and he has now stated he "will do nothing". I guess he plans to keep all ($) that I paid for these.
I did not really want to personalize this, but....... And I have not named anyone yet, but I do not believe this eBay seller is that knowledgeable, or he is not a straight shooter. He did something similar on an engine case he sent at same time, but that is another long story. But, I do not want others buying things like this from him, and then getting into word debates [and attempted insults about my perceived religion] with him.
Thanks again.

More photos of the parts
Here are some more photos. The V cylinder photo is from ebay; there was no H cylinder photo.

Thanks for the comments, and........
....the issue was resolved successfully. The seller refunded the purchase price (not the shipping in both directions) and I have accepted that.
I have learned something more about a engine parts. And, maybe, about buying with too much trust and not enough [stupid] questions.
I hope someone else looked at the photos and learned something from them.
Over and out.

I try to use Paypal only, they are pretty quick to resolve this kind of problem without having to get into a pissing match. If you used them, you should be able to recoup all the shipping as well, if not, I would think that splitting the shipping cost would be a reasonable compromise to the seller. It sure beats a formal complaint and bad feedback for him.

Either way would have been fine with me. I'm not Walmart and you probably mistook me for a pussy. I think you should sue.
