That would agree with my speculation here:

metal chunks in oil

Without looking at it (assuming this is what happened), not sure if any damage might have been done to the valve. Certainly possible. I would ask the service manager for clarification, were it my bike. I think it would help to have the mechanic show you on another engine, what he is talking about, which valve, and if he did it during your last service, etc...
