Default 180/5.5 vs 190/6.0

I think for the most part, everyone agrees that dropping down to a 180 on the stock 5.5 wheel gives a better turn in feel. Does staying with the 190 and going up to a 6.0 wheel afford a similar improvement?

I would assume you are talking about the new 999???

In my opinion.... no. You still won't have the flickablility of the 180. But the handling won't feel "weird".

I hated my bike with the 190 pinched on the 5.5. I threw on the 180 and it was a great improvement.

No, it's on my FE. I did the change down to a 180 on my first 998 and liked it a lot. I was wondering if I'd get that same feel with the new wheels I ordered that has a 6.0 rear and the 190. I was hoping the changed profile the larger wheel allows would give me a similar result as the 180/5.5 set-up.

Sounds like that’s a No...

I have a 190 on a 6 inch marvic rim on my monster. It feels good. A 190 is suggested by marvic for their 6 inch rim so that the tire has the correct profile. A 180 works, but the profile is a bit smashed, not sure how much of a difference that makes. Also I think a 190 looks good, but some like slim tires better.

Which tyre would fit better on a 17", 5.75" wheel, Gentlemen? 180 or 190?

Would this in any way depend on the tyre fitted or are Pirelli, Michelin and the others pretty similar when it comes to matching wheel and tyre size?

Yup, and I guess Micherelli makes them, right?

I used to run a 180 on my 5.75, but I think Dunpop makes a tire that is 190 or something like that for the 5.5, that may be an option.

I read in another Forum that Michelin is supposedly coming out with a 190 designed to fit on a 5.5" wheel. Didn't say which tire and also didn't say if it would be a 50 or a 55 series. May be something to follow up on though...

a 190-55 is better for a 6 inch rim than a 180, and will have the same turn in speed if not better.
