STM full floating rotor button kits
I'm going to try the STM full floating rotor button kit from Lockhart Phillips.
I'm looking for ideas on removing the semi-floating buttons on the stock Brembo rotors.
Thanks

i have my rotors done with the STM buttons, and i used a 4 1/2 grinder. being very careful not to touch the carrier. it took about an hour or so to do, just be very careful that's all.

Grab the front of the existing buttons with a set of needle nose vice grips, then lay the rotor flat on a board (backside facing up) and drill out the button with a large bit. If you don't hold it when you drill it'll spin.

I drilled mine out. You can do it with the wheel on the bike if you want.

+1 on the Grinder, I tried drilling mine out but it was too much like hard work, I reckon it would have taken all day. Took me less than 1 hour with a grinder.
Wheel spins so much more freely now.

I tried the grinder at first, but the buttons got so damn hot I didn't want anything to warp.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but a question for those of you with the floating buttons. Do your rotors rattle like a tambourine, and do they stick sometimes when you are backing the bike up? Just curious, cause mine do, but they work well.

Mine do exactly what you describe...I was a little concerned on the "backing" issue, but apparently it's a common issue with the full floaters.

Worth it...
I asked this question after I installed my 19x18 radial m/c...
Did they make a difference????
I am still trying to figure out the benefit other than helping to reduce possible warping (which in itself is a good benefit....)

The sole reason I swapped full-floating buttons in, was to help "reduce possible warping." I went through two pair of snowflakes before getting 998R narrow-band rotors in which I installed the buttons. Of course it could simply be the new rotors, but I have over 10,000 miles on them with no issues. Implied benefit enough, for me.
Back to your question...the little guys save a suprising amount of weight. I forget exactly how much, but I think is was around 12oz for the pair of rotors. It would have been more with the snowflakes, given they have more buttons than the 998R narrow-bands.

floating button
How many people have the replacement of the butons while the disks were still on? I would thinkg grinding or drilling would would cause metal to get where you dont want it to be.

Use an external snap ring pliers, stick it in the buttons, squeeze it and rotate the buttons 90 degrees. Works fine for a few months then do it again.
