Talking Schumi backs out of comeback!

Sounds like he didn't want to look "slower" than people remember him. Did he wad up his neck in his bike getoff a few months ago?

By Michel Mathes
Aug. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Racing-car driver Michael Schumacher canceled a planned comeback because of a neck injury sustained earlier in the year.
The seven-time world Formula One champion commented in a statement on his Web site today.
Schumacher, 40, had agreed to come out of retirement to fill in for the injured Felipe Massa, who suffered head injuries in an accident in Budapest last month.
``Unfortunately I'm not able to step in for Felipe,''
Schumacher said in the statement. ``I really tried everything to make that temporary comeback possible.''

Sounds like the wreck he had on his bike was still a lingering problem. Now Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer will take Massa's place in the car.

Too bad, it would have been interesting to see Michael in the car again.

Either he realized that, as fit as he can be, his neck at 40 isn't what used to be at 30 or simply that he wouldn't be able to keep up with the younger chaps and quickly backpedalled.
Anyway I saw some still unpublished pics of the Schumacher crash at Jerez (a local photographer was there taking promotional pictures for some teams and captured most of the event) and to call it "massive" would be an understatement.
