Thumbs up The Indy 500 was some race!

Wow! That has to be one of the best Indy 500's I've seen. If Marco could have pulled that one off, it would have been one of the most spectacular moments in Indy history, maybe even racing history in general. Leave it to Penske to pull one out of the bag like that.

Great show...

I was SCREAMING at the TV!

Micheal leading with 10 to go,then what,6 to go,Marco comes around him and drives away.
Micheal puts a small,ah himm, block on Hornish to try and slow him up to no avail.Hornish just drives around him.
Then with 3 to go Hornish puts the move on Marco but is stopped and falls all the way back to Micheal, then just hit the afterburners and set Marco up for a perfect finish line pass! SOB!

I was pulling for Marco all race.

Hornish even got a drive thru, put to the back of the pack and still won.

Yes a great race.
IS INDY BACK? Another like that and it would hard to say no.

How about Weldon? For 100 laps nobody could touch him.

It certainly was a great finish. Marco is an Andretti! When he shut the door on Hornish going into turn three I thought he won the race, but Hornish sure knows how to time the finish in these cars!

No, I don't think Indy is back. It was a great finish, and I enjoyed watching it. And last year's event had to be considered a success because of Danica. But remember back when it really was "the month of May?" Back when the practice speeds made headlines each day during the week? Back when top drivers might have a bad day on the first qualifying weekend and then actually get sent home on bump day? Those days are long gone - I think the first bit of excitement this year came with the last yellow flag of the race...

It was a great race imho. Soooo damn close for Marco. Even though he was the first loser, he still has a lot to be proud of. I was yelling at the tv for him the last lap also. Glad I watched it.

I admit I was cheering for Marco.. I wish he would have won it.. Rookie, Andretti, Indy.. wow..

I love what he said afterwards "Second Place sucks".

I admit we are a long way from the 40-50 drivers trying to get in a 33 car field, with 75 or so cars.

I don't know if we will ever get back to needing 4 full day of qualifying either even if we get ChampCar or whatever they call themselfs and the IRL to play nice.

They never said it on TV but I have to think the Hondas are a little underpowered, all the incar stuff seemed to show the throttle full all the way around.
Anybody notice Marco shifting up and down twice per lap?

Are there any IRL tracks where they aren't full throttle all the way around?

I believe those cars have always been low on power and heavy on downforce compared to the cars they replaced.

You have a point there.

Maybe it's time to take the wings off and just run the USAC style sprint cars again....HELLO 1963....

Wow, that's a cool idea. What if the new cars had a very low downforce package for ovals (like no downforce) and a high downforce package for road coarses? It would be nice to see the driver be a bigger part of the oval performance, and if they had no downforce the speeds would be a lot safer and it would be fun to watch them sliding around a bit.
