But that's just how I feel, and both Merc and Caddy make some nice cars. But if it's a Camaro, then make it look like a Camaro. Don't just poach the name and hope the boomers will line up cash in hand.
I believe the idea was to make a modern interpretation of a '69 Camaro. High DLO's are out and high belt lines are in. Nothing against the old Camaros, they are beautiful, but what's the point of taking it word for word?
hmmm..didn't know chevy built a camaro in 65 .. besides, the pic is of a 68, if ya notice the absence of a vent window. But i do agree, it just don't look right.
Can't say that i'm a fan of these new design trends with american made muscle cars, bigger and bulky throw backs to the 60's styles. Seems like the new mustang has set the precident, and everyone else is jumping on board. Personally I think corvette has the right idea, smaller, like the 60's style vettes, they lost me in the 80's and seem to have come back to a tighter line. Even the viper has taken on a smaller profile, I think the larger shapes should be reserved for the luxury liners like the 300M ect.
I've bumped my head a few times so dates are hard. Maybe I was thinking Corvair.

Don't forget the target drivers for these are a bit bigger than years ago. Most won't be squeezing into an Exige.

I don't think they're necessarily trying to evoke a certain model year of original Camaro, the way Ford did with the Mustang, and Dodge with the Challenger.
To me, it looks like they're going back to using classic muscle car lines, while remaining modern overall. I actually like most of the lines - except for that smiley-face grill Chevy is using on everything they make nowadays, including the C6 Vette. Blecch. But if you just black out the grill, I think the car looks pretty good.
At least they've gone completely away from that horrible door-stop look Camaro has had for the last 20+ years. I'm sorry if I've offended any Camaro fans here, but I haven't seen a good-looking Camaro since the 70's!
heres a link to some more spyshots of the Camaro and a few others. I like the concept for the new Supra and the styling on the 07 M3 as well as the rebirth of the VW Scirocco. http://www.modernracer.com/spyshots/spyshots.html

Those are independant artists ideas of what the new Camaro might look like. I think if they did one it would be closer to the show car.
I've always been a GM guy, but this new Camaro looks like crap. (Crappy American Made Automobile Rusting Outside). I was really hoping for a late 60's look-alike for the new Camaro. I've never been a Ford guy at all, but I might take a new Mustang over this new Camaro. The new Camaro would need to have 450+ HP to make up for its looks, then it might be worth it.
