Default Foggy backs out

Fogarty Cancels Plans For MV Agusta World Superbike Team, Puts Race Facility, Equipment Up For Sale

Sep 29, 2007

From a press release issued by Team Foggy Racing:

Team Foggy Racing, the motorcycle racing team owned by Carl Fogarty, has been forced to abandon plans to compete in next year's World Superbike championship following an unsuccessful search for sponsorship.

TFR, based in Burton-on-Trent, England, had intended to operate as the factory team of Italian manufacturer, MV Agusta.

Carl, the four-times World Superbike champion, said: "Everyone knows that this is a difficult time for motorcycle sponsorship. However, we hoped that the combination of my team with an iconic brand such as MV Agusta would have been an attractive proposition for potential sponsors both in the UK and abroad.

"Regrettably, despite the enormous excitement generated amongst motorcycle fans, this has not proved to be the case, leading us to the conclusion that the market will not support a professionally-run outfit of our size without significant financial input from a manufacturer. So I have decided to bring this chapter of my career to an end by putting our state-of-the-art facility at Burton, our race trailer and hospitality unit up for sale.

"I would like to thank all those who supported our efforts during the Foggy Petronas Racing project and I hope that the tide turns in favour of the efforts of privately funded teams.

"On a personal front I am now focusing on a number of new opportunities, both inside and outside the motorcycle industry."

I have a bike, and I ride it. I'd give a low down on it here, but then that would take away from my riding time!

a blurb from crash.net

Roberts comments on MV's WSBK efforts...

Team Roberts held mid-season discussions with MV Agusta about the possibility of running a factory WSBK outfit next year, but the Italian factory - whose planned partnership with Foggy Racing was recently scrapped - seems to be backing away from the series.

"Although we had some exploratory discussions with MV, that was in the middle of summer and we have not really spoken since. I think their interest in participating next season has gone away, but that is something you would have to ask them directly," Team Roberts team manager Chuck Aksland told Crash.net.

"If an opportunity to participate in World Superbike came up, then we would certainly look at that as one option," Aksland continued. "We already develop parts for some teams participating in World Superbike, so this could be a natural progression. Of course, it takes either working with a manufacturer or having a sponsor to have this sort of project make sense. As I mentioned, if the right opportunity came up we would certainly look at it."

A perfect example of it's better to burn out than to fade away...
