Default What bike are you tracking and racing this season?

If time and money allow me to, I will again put my Hypermotard 1100 on the track later this year. It hasnīt got any engine mods, but itīs good fun to ride on the track with such an exotic bike. The 2v engine is good fun, especially if you have others with 2v powered bikes riding with you.

Hereīs a pic in track trim.

Letīs see your weapon for 2012!

Nice bike dude.

Is it stock engine wise or did you put something special in it?

stock was 170 crank, but mine has the club kit (full ak, air filter, thin headgaskets, degreed cams and new map) installed... should be around 180 at the crank now...

Throwing around supossed HP crank figures is about as reliable as the neighberhood whore. Ever had it on a dyno for rear wheel HP??

Ok...you asked..

Lets see, this motor started as an 03 800, the chassis is from a euro '99 750ssie [brought back by a US serviceman in a container] I built the original "short stroke" motor, and it made a very reliable 89.9 at the rear wheel...but that's another story.

I stripped the motor and put in a [Ben Fox] balanced and lightened crank, lightened flywheel, 916 SPS primary gears, converted the bike to dry, slipper, clutch, pistal 13:1 pistons [which really net a measured 12.3:1 @ 1mm squish], carillo rods [compliments of Ben Fox] Down-draft heads by Doug @ ARC fabrication, 748 throttle bodies feeding it all. Undertail exhaust, again by Doug, febur oil cooler. I pretty much blueprinted everything as it went back together...you'd be surprised how "off" things can be from the factory. The chassis has had the complete rear chopped off and replaced with an aluminum subframe, I designed offset steering head bearings to decrease rake to 23 deg [lot of guys run my SS bearings, I designed them for the 848 too, see Mark @ Ducshop for them] I had 27mm offset triples [made a few sets of those for my best racing buddies] to get the trail back, but now I'm running modified 30mm lowers off a 748-996 superbike [with an old Cyclecat conversion upper] and it's not twitchy. Front Tin forks off a superbike, worked on by Rick @ Cogent Dynamics [a vendor here], and a rear Penske [also supplied by Rick] Rear swingarm off a 95 SP. Wheels are Carrozzeria forged [shite, think I bought those from Rick too?] Fuel tank is a carbon fiber superbike tank, saved from a buddy who was getting ready to cut it up, modified to fit SS, bodywork is [very beat] Sharkskinz. Anyway, I'm old and race LtWt, so I just needed something to tinker with during the winters

Oh yeah, the frame color did not come out as planned...meant to be more Italian, less kawasaki, green...

I'll, post pics if you wish, but I don't want to clog this thread up

What's wrong with the neighborhood whore?

2001 Ducati 996, stock motor. Custom valved rear Ohlins, ohlins sprung front, Brembo Brake Master, Magnesium wheels...still need to get offset triples

Wow, this is awesome! I have so many questions, letīs see if I can get them sorted out in my head (itīs still spinning from blade625īs last post ).

First, blade, thatīs really impressive. My hatīs off to you! Do you own a machine shop or something?

ANGUS: you got me hooked on the SR label. Tell already. Used to be an S, but now... what happened?

mia748sp nice bike, looks like an old 2002 748S judging by the paint scheme. Anything special in there we canīt see? Looking at the exhaust (54mm system?) Iīd guess you have a fire breathing motor in there.

Thanks Ben. No, I own an archituctural millwork shop. That said, I can draw in CAD, and have a machine shop down the hall so it's fairly easy to get things done.

I dont really care about hp numbers, the 'supposed' numbers agree with the manufacturers specs. The bike feels strong, i see no need to dyno it
