Default Are the 996RS and 998RS gearboxes identical?

I've stumbled across a 996RS gearbox but before deciding whether to buy it or not I need to know if there are any significant differences btw the 996RS, 998RS and 998R versions.

Are we talking plug-and-play or major modifications in order to fit a 996RS gearbox to my 998R?

What about the 998RS gearbox? Any better in that respect?

Thanks a lot, gents!

I would suggest spend a dime and call Mark at Ducshop, he's one of the few with the working knowledge of the RS/works bikes and would let you know whats what.

Thanks Art,

Yes it will work. You will need to use a 996 ft. sprocket w/mounting tab or trasfer the gears onto your output shaft. Also the input shaft doesn't taper down for the small clutch nut so you need the "Corse" large nut/washer set up. We have one new 998RS trans left here if you need.

I have a couple avenues I'm exploring for the rocker right now....I'm gonna need a shorter ride height adj. though, do you have something that will work or will a 749R unit fit on a 996? Matt

I love RS parts. My favorite pastime was looking on the RS parts fiche a figuring what would fit on my bike. It was fun until the RS coolant bottle incident .

What? A broken coolant bottle threw you off the RS chase?

Whoever said drugs are addictive. It's nothing compared to RS parts

I even bet the RS addiction costs more

There were a few versions of RS rockers and most use a 185mm length rod which I'm out of, have some 210mm & 165mm Corse rods. Also if you get a Corse rod they have larger (1/2") rod ends (McMaster Carr). The 749R one is on the short side to match thier link.
