Default 996 front end on a DS

Can this be done? with the adjustable rake and all. I've got a 996RS and I think I'm going to a lightweight DS superbike. The DS has got a crap, well regular, front end thats got the Taxxion kitted showas(however its spelled). I'm Ohlins spoiled

Lots of people have put superbike front forks on their SS's. Difference is the fork mounting diameters, SS's have 50mm upper tube diameters vs. the 53mm on the SBK's. You have to either bore out the SS upper triple to accomodate the SBK forks or get a new upper triple clamp designed for that mod. Cycle Cat used to make them, and I think Speedymoto does now. Add new clip-ons for the bigger upper tubes and you should be set.

You might check on the brake offset on the RS, if I remember right those have a 15mm offset (on the disc rotor) rather than the 10mm used in most other 748/916/996/998 sbk's & the supersports/monsters. You could always just put the RS front wheel & brake assembly on there though.

I don't know about the newer DS frames....Not possible with SSie line and further back. New clamps and offset bearings might net you a degree or so.

Other than that plan on a quick chopper type bike.....

The SS's have never (to my knowledge) come with the adjustable steering head that some superbikes have. If you wanted to adjust the offset, probably have to have a shop custom fabricate some triple clamps for that purpose.

Missed that part when I first read your post.

My 1000DS has an Ohlins 25mm cartidge kit and radial fork bottoms. The stock forks are flawless if modified correctly.

The adjustable rake comes from the frame, not the forks. Rake can be modified on the supersports, but it takes some doing. If you do that, you'll want different offset for the triples.

Its not a question of making the stock units work better. I've already got the Ohlins R&Ts with the Mag triples. They look so much beefier and the biz compared to the stock units. These are 27mm offsets and look to be the same off set as the DS measured from the center of the fork tube back to the center of the steering tube nut. Are the steering tubes the same as far as the diameter, top and bottom.Top eight hole nut looks the same. The DS tube looks to be shorter but if the same I could just swap tubes for a bolt on? The fork lenghs are the same. This is the bike I just got and am considering it for.

Bruce built my motor (makes a bit more). They are great bikes, you'll enjoy racing it.

Webman, I have a fork kit for those forks that you have. I will put them in your forks and if you don't think they close the gap on the ohlins forks, I will put your forks back like they were and give you your dough back. Bill, give me a call...

I have seen people who modified the 996 triples with the stem from a Supersport. I would guess the change you want can be done.
