Smile Top Power from 900SS

I'd like to thank Chris Steedman for his help in getting 97.2 BHP and 65lbdft of torque from my 900SS I.E. Without doubt his headwork has made it happen.

Thanks also go to Mark Hill at MHP for the fantastic job he made on the exhaust. The underseat system is the mutts nuts and definitely helps the motor breath while sounding and looking awesome.

If only we'd moved the rev limit to 9500 we would have made a ton.

We don't know if this is the best figures from a UK 900 but they must be close.

And i think we better thank Tim Blakemore for mapping it and Rich llewellyn for saving you a 250 mile trip by having a pc3 in stock when no main dealership within 100 miles of Bristol did Well done guys

Nice going Chris!

On the subject, I was involved in a 1000ss with ported heads by Proservice (reshaped intake) and DP cams but stock pistons and it didnt get the dip at 7k either as usually follows with DP cams and stock heads. Too bad there wasnt room for a good set of pistons in the budget.

Luckily I ran it prior to the mods and mapped it properly and then after mods again and the result goes like this:

Boy is that nice...great work

Here is my dyno sheet after my 966 build.... you can make power with these air cooled motors and surprise quite a few rice burners in the process

Mike, you should check out Chris Kelley's site at ca-cycleworks.com or ducatitech.com. He seems to be able to get more than 100 hp out of carbed pre-1999 Supersports. Benno1803's is fuel injected.

Bennos doesnt have a big bore kit - its just a 900. It also uses stock valves not large ones. Add a 966 big bore kit and some oversize valves to bennos then it will be way over 100hp

Top end wise there is not much in it between well set up short manifold carbs and fuel injection.

So what all was done, just the heads and a remap?

Benno I am also trying to figure out what frame that is. Obviously it's the 9x6-style bodywork but what has the bolt-on solo rear with the 900ss tank?

It had a balanced crank/flywheel with 900cc je pistons . Benno set his own squish and cam timing . I made the heads using the flow bench and modified but stock size valves . Then it was mapped with a pc3
