... would have a roller/ball bearing crank or plain bearings please?

plain big end, ball roller mains like all the others.

Thanks Brad,

How would you check for main bearing issues, without opening the cases?.

I'm thinking that I would feel a harshness through the casing with my hand, but otherwise cannot think how to check ... as surely you would not hear it unless it is really, really stuffed.

you can pull both side covers and bits off. they might whine like a straight cut gear set, or vibrate. you won't see any damage unless you knock the inner out and inspect the balls tho usually.
