weight?
Anyone know the realistic weight of 99+ ss in track form. without going nuts where do they come in.
Also -- anyone have one that is extremely light? i.e. carbon wheels - tank etc. - what kind of weight can you get if you go nuts?

If I recall, Clayton's SS1000 was around 360 without gas. He had all the usual race prep done, did have mag wheels and an ETI tank...but other than that no crazy titanium or magnesium pieces. He might remember the number better, or maybe he posted it when he built it a while back?
Jim at Desmodromiclub has it now.

I weighed mine on the ASRA scales at Road America, it came in at 378 with a topped off tank of fuel.
rear subframe was chopped, steel tank, aluminum swinger, forged aluminum wheels, small battery, stripped wiring harness..all the usual stuff without going nuts on the $$$ aftermarket race parts

1000SS weight
I'm right there with Blade. Just off the track after an ASRA Thunderbike race last year my 2005 1000 SS weighed 374 lbs. That is straight off the track with about 1.25 gallons of fuel.
We took a bunch of weight out of the engine - lightened crank, carillo rods, lightweigh flywheel, lightened primary gears. Externally it has a chopped sub-frame, aluminum fairing bracket, YTZ7 battery and a stripped wire harness. We also ditched the airbox and put on the TPO pod fiters.
Its possible to drop a bunch more weight - but as always it is a matter of cubic dollars. ETI Fuel cell is worth 10 lbs. Magnesium wheels another 15-20 lbs. Titanium axles and other misc. bolts probably would add up to another 5-10 lbs... I'm thinking the minimum race ready weight you can get to would be roughly 330 lbs.
The motor and steel frame are pretty heavy so I just can not see any way to get the weight down much more.

Yes I had a early 900ss in basic race trim down to 342lbs.
Then I got serious about getting the weight down. This weights 300lbs wet no gas.

Just for fun I weighed my track SS yesterday. It's a '97 SP, but it came in at 340 lbs. with 1/2 tank of gas. It has magnesium wheels, CR 1/2 fairings, spaghetti headers and carbon cans and all the street stuff removed. I'll check the weight again today since I was really surprised it was that light !
Joe
Update: I checked again. 345 with 1/2 tank of gas, 333 empty.

Here is what one of our members did:
Sparky weighs 165KG without fuel and 174kg fully fuelled-with 104rwbhp and 74ftlbs of torque.
John (JHP) reckons that when we get the adjustable ECU on her we should be able to get 110-115bhp with a similar increase in torque as she is running well rich at the moment.
The MBP testarossa cylinder heads are the real deal for the older 900 based engines, but the twinspark engines have a much better head as standard since they are based on the testastretta design with a smaller included valve angle, bigger valves and better ports......
great, forum wont accept my images so i'll be back ......
