Default Regulator Woes

95 SS900, regulator cooked on me.
Got a new, supposed replacement from the local ducati shop... so far so good. had to change the wiring a bit, ok. Now I go to fit it, the bloody thing does not physically fit where the old one did. Its a 999 B/03.
When I say it won't fit, the bolt holes on the new one are wider apart. I thought I would get one to line up and drill a new hole, and use a washer set up to fix the other side, but now, that would be too drastic for both bolts (wouldn't trust it). Has anyone else had this problem, and got a fix.
cheers
TM

What you have is the Late Model replacement, as you have found they physically do not fit. The other options are relocating it, the Electrex unit or finding a good used Early Regulator.

Mine gave up two years ago and I replaced it with an electrosport esr510. I can report that this unit bolted right up. Looks like they are still available too. What about making a bracket out of a piece of aluminum to fit your unit?

That's what I ended up doing. I'm p***d off at the ducati dealer for selling it to me as the correct part though. I should have read a few old posts on this forum first. Works fine now though, and as long as you don't look too closely, you wouldn't notice
cheers

Yes, the board is a great resource for guys like me, who prefer to do as much work as possible themselves, but are not highly experienced, so thank you to those who help out.

Default reg/rec ducati

hi
if you run a ground wire from your new reg/rec bolt to the ground on the battery that will help ,as you have fitted it to alloy as did the old british bikes that will take the heat from the shunt reg/rec that is used on the ducati plus use some of the heat paste that sparks use on the base of the new reg/rec
