Default rev counter

Looking for direction, the rev counter has given up and the cable is turning in the drive off of the head is it more likely the cable or is the drive worn, has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, in 30,000 miles on my ’95 SS-SP, I am on my second tach cable, and third speedo cable. I don’t know if it’s the routing, heat, or just crappy cable construction, but they don’t seem to last long. I am guessing your problem is likely the cable. If you get a new cable I would suggest that you wash out the factory graphite (or whatever they use) and use an aftermarket cable lube or light motor oil. I’ve been using synthetic 10W30 in my latest speedo cable for a few years now. Fingers crossed.

my FE has 53k on it and this was the second time this has happened. it appears that the cable has some wear at the drive end. I took the cheap was out and shimmed it and it works fine now.
