Default Fuel leak

Hi there,
I have a '95 900SS. Hasn't been ridden for a while. Took it out this morning, and noticed fuel was pissing out of the fuel tank drain hose. And I mean bucket loads, I think only when I was idling, but I'm not sure about that.
Is this normal if a bike hasn't been ridden for a while?
I'm only a bush mechanic. Any advice would be appreciated. I have a feeling it may be something in the carbs sticking due to lack of use, and it may correct itself, but that is a total guess, and it is leaking from the tank, not the carbs, so ??????
thanks for your help

The filler overflow has a rubber tube that attaches to the underside of the filler insert and then to the bottom of the tank inside.Eventually it will get old and cracked. If a split evolves you will get a huge leak.

Ric,
You're a bloody genius, thanks for that. Interestingly, it was not cracked, etc, it had become dislodged from the top, so it was floating around in the tank, causing an 'intermittent' huge leak.
Thanks again,
cheers

Hey Ric,
I've come to my next problem. I had to take the filler insert out, to work out the problem. Is there a trick to getting it back in, because I am having a lot of trouble.
I have both the Haynes manual and the ducati manual, but both are pretty useless in these type of details.
thanks
TM
