Christ, do NOT bring back the SS. I have a 97. Nice bike. When I bought it, Ducks were like hen's teeth - ya didn't see a lot of 'em. These days, they're the new Harleys - every squid and his brother has one. With matching Dainese leathers, Arai helmets, and Moto Sidi boots. Good gear. Good God.... It's like the RUBs on Harleys with their orange-and-black jackets. Is there a RULE mandating this, or what?

No thanks. Let em trailer their 1098s to Starbucks. Makes em easier to spot and keep the hell away from.

Sorry to be such a grouch but newbs (not all of 'em, by a long shot) have killed a marque I loved.

Considering the 851 / SS SAVED Ducati from extinction in the late 80's, I'd say it's a worthy cause. You sound like the guy who's favorite local band got discovered and sold out.

So good for Ducati, they're selling some bikes, they are still a niche brand, just with a few more old guys

I think Ducati is still pretty exclusive. All of the 1098s I've seen in the wild I could count on the fingers of my two hands. I see that many Japanese sport bikes every day.

I like the looks of the concept drawing SS above. I'd consider it if they made it. A few years ago I would have scoffed at it but now having owned a '96 SS/SP for the last three years, I am a convert. I love the concept and I love the simplicity of the aircooled engine. Make that in a 1200 with more power and tork, and a swoopy _Ducati_ body like the 1098 and I'd be a happy camper.

Hmmm. That does sound like me....

Sorry for the tirade, folks. It's just that I've already got a Harley in the garage that really is a nice bike (I kid you not) but I can't stand to ride because it's so bloody....common! - and I am starting to feel the same way about the Duck.

Luckily, there's always the Norton Commando!....

While I am very sceptical, my friend, who is a Ducati/Triumph salesman, beleives there will be an 800 SS for next year. I'll beleive it when I see it.

I'll take an updated 2010 800SS! Hopefully inspired by the '91-'97 version.

I realize it's wishful thinking but hey, a guy can dream...
