Very cool! I'm picking up a 97 900 this week and hoping to do a full rebuild over the winter! I was thinking of powder coating the frame white and painting the rims black.....might even try retro fitting a 888 tail section to it? I'll post pic's as the build progress's
Nice! Looking forward to some pics as it comes along.
I'm debating having the swingarm powder-coated a nice satin black. I'll be switching over to pod filters this winter too. I can't stop fiddling with this thing...

Sorry (not really!) to resurrect an old thread but I don't get to this board much anymore (old man now, Ducs are young studs' bikes) and wanted to say hello to all and 'specially my man Jeff and his lovely Massachusetts born and bred better half. Hope all's well. - Brian
Hi Jeff. Nice to hear from you. I love my pods, and DID I TELL YA ya'd love the lightened flywheel? Did I, huh, huh, huh? (It's great, innit? Spools up so frigging quickly, and I love the extra engine braking too. There's just no downside (once you stall it the first two times at low revs and figure out not to do that again).)
Hey, nothing wrong with Massachusetts (well....the weather sucks, but SHEEIT, you should be used to that....). C'mon out and give it a try.
If you do, let me know, I'd love to buy you a beer or seven.... You can come by and see the stable, and I will even let you take my Duc out for a spin. Heck, you'll recognize the HeliBars!
Not sure you can handle the RAW POWER (forgive me Iggy!) but I'll paint it RED to slow it down so you can keep the front wheel down...
OK, you were right about the flywheel! That thing sat on my shelf for a year before I had the guts to have it installed. I stalled it one time and now it's like it was always there. Bike runs like a champ, especially with the lightened/balanced crank.
I forgot about the Heli bars. I'm glad you're getting good use out of them. Next time I'm in Mass I will give you a head's up so you can buy me that Guinness.
Ducatis should be RED, Brian!!!!!!

I do that all the time - buy parts and then let them sit on the shelf for ages. Without exception, the day comes when IT IS TIME and I dive into the project I've been putting off for so long and enjoy it thoroughly (which is not to say a little, um STRATEGIC cursing doesn't take place...).
I got my Nichols flywheel used when someone on one of the Duc boards - it may have been this one - PM'd me after I'd posted about another one, that didn't fit my bike, and was accused of being a spammer, leading me to explain why I wasn't interested in such a great bargain myself.... blah blah blah. Anyway, it gathered dust for quite a while before installation.
Come to think of it, I gotta start buying a few toys for the shelf....
I have a set of 4 pad calipers from a 999 that I'm waiting to put on next. Had them on the shelf for a couple years now. I suppose I didn't need them, but the price was pretty good. I'll probably put them on this winter. I figured I needed better brakes, what with the Duc being so fast and all.
You probably don't have that problem with your bike being yellow. OH NO YOU DIDN'T!

NNNNaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh.
The secret to stopping a yellow bike, with stock brakes?
I carry a rattlecan of red paint, ya see, so if'n I gots to slow down, I jest.....
4 piston calipers are very good and IMHO a very worthwhile upgrade.
Thought I'd put some piccies on of my project in different guises, but it seems not: here are some from a few years ago - sadly, she sat for 3 years due to a cracked frame
I have a winter project similar to yours, only it's been ongoing for nearly 7 winters. Changes included various iterations of Sharkskinz body work becasue of track day crashes.
BST wheels with Pirelli Diablo SBK slicks
, Braktech rotors, Brembo GP billet calipers and radial master cylinder
Showa forks (748) with Cyclecat upper triple clamp, Penske rear shock
MBP heads, 41 FCR carbs with pod filters
Dyna coils, DP ignition modules
Lightened crank from Fox performance along with 94mm JE 11:1 pistons and Carillo rods
EVR slipper clutch, Motowheels clutch slave cylinder
carbon fender and rear hugger
I had the bottom end completely rebuilt this past winter, now I need fresh paint and some new body work.
I also have a set of Ohlins R/T forks but they need lighter springs
The secret here is don't keep the receipts on what you spend. You can never justify the expense to someone other than another addict
Nice to see other projects on the forum! Here's a little update...
Brembo RCS master cylinders got installed this Spring. Love them. Also, my Nichols crankcase breather took a crap, so I replaced it with an STM model. I ran an extra long length of hose with K&N filter from the breather up under the seat to the rear storage area. Cleans everything up nicely and no more misting oil near the rear tire.
I started doing track days this summer and after my second one my valves started sounding really loud. I checked the clearances and they were way off! So, I decided this would be a good time to have MBP collets put in. Handed the Duc and parts over to my mechanic and said go get 'em. Apparently they were a pain to install, but now the clearances are nice and tight. She runs so smoothly. In the process of checking my belt tension for me, my mechanic somehow cracked my Desmotimes machined belt covers. Dammit! So...I ordered a set of the Speedymoto covers. I'm not sure how I feel about them yet, but the colors seem to complement the rest of the bike. I might still try and repair the DT belt covers...here's a pic of how she looks now.
