Default Fuel cap gasket replacement

When I placed my order for the clutch pushrod seal set at Desmo Times I also picked up a new set of battery straps and a fuel cap gasket as mine are cracking pretty badly.

For the battery straps it looks like I'll need to remove the airbox/battery tray piece to install those from underneath? Doesn't look like they're meant to install from the top but just wanted to make sure before I go ripping all that out of there.

Also, on the cap gasket, I removed the cap and inner ring, removed the 8 small set screws around the lip, but the outer ring doesn't want to come off. Is it glued on or is there something else I'm missing holding it to the tank?

You need to whack that sucker.

I used a smaller rubber mallet which fit inside tank hole...and pulled up on it (hitting it from within) going around and around until it popped out.

But first, you did take out those little set screws, yes?

Sometimes they stick pretty tightly!! Once you get it out apply a coating of grease to the tank and the green O-ring for next time!!

Thanks I will try beating on it some more, I was afraid to put too much pressure on it in case there was something else I was missing.

Well, finally got around to trying this again. I was determined it was coming off there this time!
