Default gearbox question

Ducati Performance makes a 6 speed transmission for 750ss's. Instead of buying something like that, would a 748 tranny fit into a 750ss? Or are the dimensions radically different? Anyone done this?

Default Re: gearbox question (blade625)

blade,

Ducati makes a wet clutch 6speed that will fit the 750. It was from the old 400cc bikes. A 748 will NOT fit as it is too long due to what you were asking about in your other thread. It will fit a 900 due to also being a dry clutch. You can buy a new 6spd for about $700 (if I remember right), and it's a direct drop in; I have one in my 750sport. If you want, I have a spare 6spd in my spare 800m motor(still in the cases, I would have to pull it).

If you find a binned 800ss/m, you can pull it from that one and you'd be a-ok . Hope this helps.

Brian,
Thanks. I had guessed as much, but had to ask. What actually precipitated the question, in the first place, was Meyers Performance has a 748 tranny in the classifieds for $100 [I was like, hmmm, that sounds pretty good]. I appreciate your offer, and might even take you up on it [let me know what you'll take for it] I'm in no hurry now, I'm trying to piece the bike back together in time to salvage some of my race season. But, winter will give me time to tear the engine down.
Thanks again,

Sean
