Default Plugs for high-comp pistons?

I have a question about pistons & plugs, folks

The background is that I'm about to put in some 11:1 high comp pistons that I got from Strati (btw, thanks again Strati; great deal and they're in great shape into my 1999 900ss.

I was wondering if that would have any effects on the type of plug to use - for instance, would I want to go to hotter plugs or anything like that, and do you have any specific recommendations?

Any help would be appreciated, and

Thanks much

Eduardo

I put Wiseco 11:1 FBF pistons in my 900 and I use the same Champion plugs the manual recommends (I forget the #). They work fine. I also use 85-87 octane gas (depending on elevation) with no pinging problems.

I have BCM ported heads and their 944/11.5:1 pistons and use the same NGK DCPR8E plugs I used when the bike was stock.

Thanks a lot for the asnwers, guys.

Intuitivelly I figured a hotter plug might give better results, but it seems the difference is not there, or at least not enough to make a noticeable change...

Ya allways learn something new

Quite a few people like the NGK plugs better than the Champion. Also, gap them a little wider than the manual says and you'll get better throttle response.

Ed

If you want the most from your motor run a set of NGK JR9C.
I run them in my 1999 944 SSie. It has 11.5 in it also.
Now here is where you crap your pants! They are Suzuki plugs!

If you don't believe that these plugs make power, just give Bruce Meyers a ring at BCM. Bruce has stated that of all the plugs he's tested, that these make the most power on the dyno.

I put nothing but these in my 944!

Thanks Art!

I'll be sure to give those a whirl

I'm a big believer in hard data - the fact that they have been dyno-tested side by side with others does lend it a lot credence.

Take care,

E.

I'll have to ask Bruce this weekend/next weekend while my bike's up there.
