SS1000DS Cyclecat risers..HELP!!
CAN"T get the DBR32 system to work PERIOD, NO WAY NO HOW, I spent two hours just on left side and if they are adjusted at extreme low position the switch gear still fowls on fairing big time. Tech at C cat said I have to bend the fairing supports up and then they will clear and I will get 3/8" rise and ZERO adjustability.
I'm REAL PEod they didn't tell me this when I ordered them, talked on phone for 10 minutes about them before I ordered and no mention of all this. How did anyone ever mount these things on a 1000SS and think they were worth anything?
When I reinstalled stock hardware I raised the clamp on the tube 3/8" and pushed the bars forward an inch and they are very solid with plenty of clamp area left, just as much rise as cyclecat said I could get and free! What is up with so many people praising these things for SS?

Re: SS1000DS Cyclecat risers..HELP!! (sscowboy)
I tried the Heli bars system on my ss and ran into similiar problems...I just put on a riser kit from Eastern Cylces Beverly Mass.($179) and they worked out pretty good... No adjustements or mickey mouse stuff...Raised the bar height approx 2".

Oh great. I was just getting ready to start shopping for one of these. You're right. Everyone rants and raves about CC's. I looked at the Heli web site because they actually have photo's of their bars mounted on my bike. (hint hint there CC) They also give factual measurements in what the bars accomplish. I wish CC would do that for theirs. Just by looking at the photo's, it really looks like the Heli's would be a piece of cake to put on and would not interfere with any body work. Very appealing because even the posts I have read praising the CC's, those people still said they were a ROYAL PITA to get them on, and then the whole no adjustability thing.
My whole thing is the SS is my wifes now and I want to do sometihing to make it more comfortable for her. She loves the bike but the bars are a bit of a reach. I like the fact that Heli advertises how far up and back the bars are.
My only problem with Heli is the price. Especially when you compare it to the CC's and the product you are getting. The CC's are beautiful, billet pieces and not much more than the Heli's. I wish some used Heli's would pop up for sale for me to try out, or if it was possible to get specs on the CC's.
Heard good things about the Eastern cycles bars to but they wont work on a 800. The bar itself doesn't come out of the clip on portion. I take it there twista you have a late model 1000?? Do you still have your Heli's and want to get rid of them.

I had my dealer install the Cycle Cats on my former SS1000DS. The fairing does limit the amount of height adjustability but the angle of the bars was vastly improved and the height was better. Although the instructions look easy, the mechanic said it was not an easy installation (much easier, however, than the CC installation on the 999).

Re: (galaxy)
I returned the Heli's for a refund...I own a 01 900SS... When I installed the Heli bars I had to adjust the fork stops all the out which limits the bike stearing ability at parking lot speeds etc....and the bars also had you sitting too far upright for my liking...Good luck

Why adjust the stops? Did the bars hit the fairing at full turn? There was no way to position them to get around that? The too far upright might be what I'm looking for. It's for my wife and I'm trying to eliminate some of the"reach" for her.

Re: (galaxy)
The only way I could get them to work was to adjust the forks stops all the way out or the bars would hit the tank...Maybe their is some differences with the 800...You might be able to use the Eastern Cycles risers if you get a 900 bars(check ebay)...

Just got an e-mail from CC and the DBR-32 is still the correct kit for the SS's but they are now shipping all kits with the short bars. This was based off of everyone's feedback I guess. Guess I'll be tackling them myself and see what happens.

I read another article where guys were bending the fairing stays up a bit to get that last little bit of clearance. You guys know what or how to bend??

Re: (galaxy)
I don't know how, but my friend put one of the first pairs of Cyclecat risers on an '04 800 and after much difficulty and talks with Cyclecat, he had to bend the stays that the mirrors mount to up about an inch. Now the bars work fine and are almost as comfortable as the ones on my 1997 SS!

Re: (Joe B)
I installed the Cycle Cat risers and bars on my '02 900SSie...it did take a bit of thinking and several manipulations to get everything working properly.
This may be a redundant thought, but I had to remove a 'spacer' to get the CC's to work properly...the spacer was under the stock bar clamps/above the triple's(it had nice rubber O rings protruding from each side to reduce vibrations? At some point I may install some rubber washers and see if it makes any difference in felt vibrations through the bars) . Once out of the way, installation was a snap. I didn't use the supplied clutch and brake reservoir mounts, just bent the stock ones a bit so it all went lock to lock without scraping the fairing.
Major comfort improvement over stock! MAJOR!!

Re: (kevyn)
I rode with two guys on 2001 900SSs this weekend. One with our bars and one without. The bike with the CC bars has the kit with the long bars and he has plenty of room and adjustment although he is running them in the lowest possible position because that is where he wants them. looking at both bikes side by side I had to wonder if people were removing the spacer and it seems that some people are trying to use the spacer with the CC bars. You have to remove the spacers to make the system work. If you are still having problems without th espacers in place please call me as we want our products to be the best and there may be issues that we are unaware of. Safe riding to all.

I've had the bars off my 800 and I don't see any type of spacer or o-ring. Remember, the 800 has the cheaper bars and coffin style reservoirs. There's nothing there but a fork sticking through a bare triple clamp. Does anyone have a photo of what we are talking about?

I had the same problem with my 800ss, when I went to re install the stock bars I switched the left & right clip ons ( you have to turn them upsided down to do this ) So instead of the sharp angle down they angle up, I couldnt believe the difference in comfort.
Now you loose some steering movement in doing this because my hands now hit the mirrors when doing sharp turns, So I took the mirrors out of where they are mounted and mounted them on top of the stock bracket, It works, little mickey mouse looking so this winter I will do something about that.
But it took such a uncomfortable bike, and turned it into a fine sport tourer!

DunkinDuck ,
Wow . That bar position looks great ! Could I bother you for a pic from the rider's side and of the mirrors ?
I am soon to purchase some different bars and did not hear of the Cycle Cat brand till now .
