Default Opinion needed on tank bag.

Any thoughts on a decent tank bag for an older 900SS/CR? I want something that is easy to put on and take off without scratching the tank to crap. I have never owned/used a tank bag so chime in if there is something that I need to know!!! All opinions are valued.

I have been looking at the Manta by Joe rocket. They are magnetic so it should fit. Saw one on a busa and didnt take up much room.

Check out RKA. Beautiful stuff designed by riders. I have their (expandable) magnetic tank bag on my 1997 SS/SP (as well as rear seat bag and sport bike saddle bags) and it fits great and is very well made.

Dude- I've been using a Nelson-Rigg magnetic tank bag, almost daily for three years. And I love it.. The only thing I would have different is I would get the one that expands to 9 inchs high.. Mine is the 5 incher

But, really.. the thing doesn't slide around much, (it's been tested at over 100mph a few times ) and doesn't scratch my tank. But make sure to keep it off of that little hump/vent thing on the front of tank, or you will spend an afternoon buffing out the light scratchs.. (don't ask me how I know )

Hey Joe, is this the one? Just wondering, can the bag be too big? This looks like a monster to me. Don't know if I'll reach my clip-ons.

hoythuntin, I assume this is what you were talking about.http://www.rapidracer.com/nerimatabag.html
Can't beat it for the price. I'm leaning towards this one for sure.

I asked the question about the same time last year and received a ton of good input from the board. I ended up going with Tourmaster's Cortech line. They sell a sport tail bag and a magnetic tank bag that fit my '98 900CR perfectly and securely. The construction is sturdy, the features are good and the red was a pretty good match too. I ended up getting a smaller tank bag, so I could still see the guages. From what folks on the board say, there are a number of quality manufacturers, so have fun shopping.

Regards,

Jeff

For a tankbag that does not even touch the tank try:

I would consider ditching the tank bag idea, and goign with saddlebags instead.

I recently got some of these
http://store.proitalia.com/108460.html

for my 1999 900ss, and they work *great* - tight, flow right into the lines of the bike, and have a cool semi-rigid design that I really like.

You can get them with matching-colour zippers - the fashion police would approve

That luggage locker is VERY cool! ducs_in_seattle, do you own this bag yourself? If so, any down falls? I assume it doesn't interfere when filling up with gas, correct? THIS may be the one!!!

Dutch, I think that's it (mine's a couple years old). I rarely use it expanded but when I do, I can still reach the bars, although expanded you can't get into a very low tuck behind the windscreen. It's nice to lean on at highway speeds to get out of the wind and rest the wrists.

I have had one on my '96 900 SS/CR for about 6 months now. Would buy another one in a heartbeat, no downfalls. The base actually locks on the bike for security and easily removed for gassing up. When you call you will actually talk with the owner/designer and the workmanship is first rate. If you ever want to take off the ring it takes about 5 minutes to switch out.
