Default CR vs SP Fairing mounts

Greetings:

I've have a 93 Sp I've owned since new. Believe it or not I've never seen a CR up close or naked. I want to put short fairings on mine but I understand the "bracketry" is different. Is it the whole front fairing frame that is different or just a couple of additional brackets? They are not factory fairings but smaller ones. I do believe I still need CR "bracketry" for them. Any help would be appreciated. Once I figure out how to post pics I'll post a picture of what it looks like now and what Im trying to achieve. Many thanks in advance.

Cheers!
Ricky

I hope I can help. (I have a CR and converted to full fairings.) If the new fairing you are mounting, mounts like an original CR fairing all you need is one bracket on each side of the bike. (Nice purple circle in picture.) It might be hard to find them though... (Check e-bay and post here in classified section. I kept mine in case I sell her.) Other than that it should be easy. p.s. I'm originally from the Lansdale area...

If this is the "small fairing" you are talking about, then you shouldn't need anymore brackets for this type of fairing. If you would like me to post a picture or two of my bike in her "CR" days let me know, or I can e-mail 'em to you.

Ricky, I put CR fairings on my SP. Very easy. You need the 2 small brackets shown in Desmospeed's pic. I made them by bending a piece of 1" wide aluminum from the hardware store and drilling a big enough hole for the rubber fastener for the fairing mount screw. You also need 2 more of the shorter, large-headed fairing screws since there is no standoff piece for them to go through and the original long pair are too long. Sorry I have no pics but you don't really need them to do it. I love the look of mine and it runs quite a bit cooler .
Good luck, Joe

You can also buy the brackets from your local Ducati dealer, at least you can here in the UK. The CR also has a plastic "bar" type thing that joins the bottom fronts of the two side panels. I guess it's to stop the two side panels separating at speed. Again it's available from a dealer.

I saw where that "bar" thing went across on the bottom when I bought my 1/2 fairings but since it wasn't included, I didn't bother to get one. Haven't missed it yet.

I took the hollow plastic brace off of my CR when I flipped the oil cooler in the vertical position. Never missed it. (Actually when I took the thing off, I found that it was full of water too. Stupid hollow plastic do-hicky thinger ma-bob slowin' me down all that time and didn't even know it! )

Thanks to all that replied. In fact, the fairings pictured in the blue bike as posted by Dutch are the ones I am going to get. They are from Ducati Kamna in Germany. Its a shame they are not available in carbon. I have Carbon full fairings and carbon solo seat. I'd like to keep the tradition. It used to be that carbon front fairings were readily available but have not seen them as of late(That and a carbon fuel tank its all it needs to be full carbon). Again thanks for all yer help.

Cheers,
Ricky

PS: Dutch, I used to live in Annapolis in the late 80's. I then moved to Kent Island before it got reaaally crowded. Spent a lot of time in Severna park street racing and ripping through the B&A. You know doing all that crazy kid stuff. Wait, don't I still do that?

i'm also curious to see a bit more info about this fairing. do you have a website link that might have a few more pictures of the application? it looks very good dutch.

if i understand correctly it would be possible to swap between these two fairings if you had a full fairing SS?

Do you mean full carbon like these?
I have know idea who made this set up, or if it is still available! Now that's a ride!
Monarc: You can change from full SP fairings to small CR fairings in 30 minutes easy, 15 if you are good. (Thats if you had the brackets that I showed in purple above and all of the correct SP hardware.) See on this carbon model you have the one fairing screw under the tank. Now the blue small fairing, that is NOT a CR fairing, doesn't need that bracket. (The fairing doesn't stretch or reach that far back.)

Dutch, yes like that. That's the seat that I have. mine was made by crawford composites. I painted it red w/white number plates and left a 2" stripe accross the centerline naked where you can see the weave
