Default Pipe modification question.

Okay, I did the aircone modification to my stock pipes. I like the sound, but eventually all of those rivets got loose and wiggly (with that mod, the outer sleeve becomes the main structure of the pipe, and the hanger is just bolted to the sleeve itself, since the baffle is gone).

I have a new set of stock pipes now that I am going to core. I would like to come up with a modification that removes most of the baffling, but retains more of the structure so it is not all held together with a zillion rivets in thin aluminum. I could use the aircone baffles again, if I can make them fit.

Any suggestions on how to do this? I just checked ducatipipemod.com - I think instructions for his modification used to be there, but I don't see them now.

Thanks.

Yea, Strati is the way to go. From what I've heard, it's just not worth the effort and Strati waaaay undercharges for the service he provides. Sound is awesome.

When I "Air-Coned" my second set of pipes I did it differently. The only part of the original baffle that was left was the solid metal lengthwise band that has the two threaded inserts for mounting, and both ends. I cut two other lengths of steel and had them welded to what was left of the inlet and exit ends of the internal baffle. I off-set these from the existing rivet holes at the end cap (once the cans are open, you'll see why). I "hogged" out the diameter of the exit end of the existing baffle assembly to the OD of the Air Cone "perf tube" under the end plate. That way, the Air Cone" baffle can be removed and re-installed by just drilling the rivets and removing the end cap. It's difficult to describe, but pretty simple when you see it. The external rivet "mod" never appealled to me too much, that's why I did it this way.

Thanks Will, that is exactly what I was looking for. I didn't understand your description 100%, but I imagine it will be clearer to me once I crack them open.

"Y-D",
I'll see if I can find some of my drawings and measurements from doing it. If I can, I'll "PM" you for an e-mail address to send it to.
