Default Supersport Clearance vs. Monster Clearance

Any of you SS guys have a Monster as well? Is ground clearance an issue with the SS as it is with the Monster in stock trim?

Greg, I can't speak to the Monster clearance issue as I don't own one, but the early (92-98) SS will pretty easily grind the exhaust header in hard cornering. The later SSie (99+) will eventually grind fairing lowers and sidestand (and then exhaust can), but has significantly better clearance.

Sorry I can't be of more direct help in your comparison question.

i don't own an SS but have ridden a few. I do own a Monster and do occasional track days and hard street riding. i've never touched anything down. even in stock trim i seemed to have plenty of clearence.

The first thing to touch on a Monster is the sidestand. I know a few Monster owners, Irene not included, that cut the knob off the sidestand.

I have scraped my sidestand on the SS going through turn 6 at Loudon once. That was more due to my poor technique.

I just got a new SS, coming from a 99 M750. The SS definately has more ground clearance.

I've scraped hard parts twice on the bike. First it was the peg and then the kickstand.

Second time it was kickstand and pipe...I was WAY TOO far over. I was running OVER the side of the tire. Gotta get my butt on a track.

Oh and DON'T go over a speed bump TWO up...specially if it's a painted one...

You'll get nice underfairing racing stripes....ARG...f-ed a BRAND NEW paint job that way.

If you throw an early SS over fast enough without hanging off far enough the bend in the headers will ground out hard enough to lift the rear wheel. You'll then get offered the chance to see the bike from 6 feet above it..... Trust me on that one....
