Default PCIII, Anyone custom map a 99' 900ss ????

Anyone do any custom mapping on their 99' 900? I gues the 99' is a unique year for power commander.

I am using the only map close to my setup from their website and am curious how much different a custom map would be.

The Map is for: Forza pipes and K&N filter no lid. (from PC's website)

I have: Strati Pipes and K&N filter with modified lid (added 4 2" holes plus the two snorkels)

Thoughts

I may be wrong about this, but I think it's the firmware in the PC that's different. The maps may work. I uploaded my map on the Dynojet site if you want to give it a shot. It's in the user submitted section and is for Arrow slip-ons and open box w/K&N filter. Works for me. Each bike is a little different though and none of the off-the-self stuff really worked for me. The real benefit of the Power Commander was realized when I had the map built.

Thanks for the info, I would be willing to pay to have a custom map done but all the sights in Seattle are for Harley's (I owned a new 2005 HD and about killed myself as it shook itself to death on a entrance ramp curve. Sold it with 500 miles, all show and zero go even after a 95" kit. I digress... Italian bikes and girls )

I will do some research, the map as installed (Forza pipes, K&N and open lid) works well, it has backfired once or twice, low (very low) speed throttle response is hard to feather. Throttle response is great and there seems to be no flat spots. need to do a high speed plug check though.

I had my bike mapped at a Suzuki Dealer. A competent Dynojet certified shop *should* be able to map any make bike.

redduc,

When I was ordering my PCIII, I was told for the 2002, to order the one for the 99. If you look at the PC website, they list 1999, then one for the 2000/01 but not 02. FBF says they use the one for the 99 on all bikes 99-03.

I have the same basic setup as you (Arrow's, open box with a K&N). How is your map? Do you have any flat spots or dips in the curve? Assume yours was done on the dyno, was curious what your numbers are (hp and Torque).

I was thinking about using your map as a baseline for mine since the config is the same, should be pretty close.

Thanks

The map is very nice. No flat spots or and other badness! As far as peak numbers, 79ish hp @ 8000 RPM, and 57ish ftlbs @ 6000 RPM at the rear wheel. Those numbers would probably be higher or lower depending on the dyno you used... There were bigger gains than what showed in peak power through out the range, and driveability / throttle response improved a lot. Peak numbers do not reflect the improvement realized by having a custom map done.

As far as the PC3 thing goes, true enough on the model years fitting your bike, but what I had to do was send my unit back to Dynojet to get it re-flashed with the firmware for the 00 and up bikes. The unit I bought on sale was for a 99, and it did not work. Dynojet knew of the problem and flashed it for free.

Thanks for the response. When I called Dynojet and asked them about it, I must have gotten the new guy cause his answer was "We don't make em' for the 02's" but Fast by Ferracci said they order the one for the 99 so i was a bit confused. You are thinking I may have to have mine reflashed? I guess when I get it, I hook it up and try it and see.

Your comments about throttle response and drivability are exactly what I want. I was just curious about the numbers. I want good, smooth and linear throttle response. I have my Aprilia set up that way and it just rocks. Thanks for the help.

BCM re-mapped my 99's chip. My set up is nearly identical to yours.

I don't have specifics about what map they used, but the bike is completely different. A few more ponies, MUCH smoother delivery, no backfire. I'm a happy guy.

You might inquire with them.

That probably depends where you buy it. I picked mine up on line a few years ago from a place that I can't remember the name of. They were being cleared out of stock. The unit I have is labeled as a PC2 although it is a PC3. It's one of the earlier units and they came flashed for the 99 model year. I assume that if you get one from a place like FBF, you will get one that works. Believe me, if it has the wrong firmware installed, you'll know it! It only took about a week to get it back when I had mine done and that was when I lived in Hawaii. It was a pretty quick turn around on Dynojets part.

That's funny. I moved back here from Kauai 2 years ago. I noticed in the notes section of your map it was done there. Assume you were in Oahu? Thanks for the help and the map. Yeah I actually ordered mine from IndySuperbikes this week, so it should be okay. Like you say, when i hook it up and send the map to it, then plug it in the the bike and fire her up, I'll know!

Yup... Stationed at Pearl on a ship. Good duty. Check my avatar. That's Diamond head in the background. It was taken at the overlook on Round top road. Best twisties on Oahu, except for Kolekole pass, which I hear has just recently reopened (closed the whole time I was there). I may have to take a vacation just to ride that road!

Good luck with your PC!

Awesome, I was in the NAVY too, got out and went to work at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai, now I work for a NAVY missile development program here in DC. I still go to Pearl all the time for missions.

Small world......Thanks again
