Hi folks! New Supersport owner
Hi all,
Just picked up my first '05 Supersport with 500 miles. The good news is it's a great bike with only slight cosmetic damage. The bad is it's got a salvage title, and from what I understand that voids the warranty.
Up untill now I've had 6 bikes, all ranging from an '85 Kawasaki 550 LTD to the one just before the Ducati, an '03 GSXR.
Of course the post doesn't end without a question. It seems that the clutch engages at the very end of the lever release, which makes the bike skip on take off. Is there any kind of adjustment that can be done? From what I understand it's a hydraulic unit.

Welcome to the board. You will love the bike. Doesn't it have adjustable levers? If so, push out on the clutch lever and turn the dial to a different setting. That should take care of the problem. You may also want to bleed the clutch line if it never has been bled before. It wouldn't hurt.

Re: Hi folks! New Supersport owner (Eli)
Woohoo! Do you love it? I just got the same bike for X-mas (only its an '04). I love mine so much!!
I have the same problem with my clutch. I have stalled it a few times. I am upgrading from an SV, so I am used to that bike. They are so different, I'm having to re-learn how to clutch this bike. I also think that the rear brake sucks. My SV has a great rear brake, so I am having to get used to a non-existant one.

Hiya,
Just a quick note... I had no rear brake on either my SS and SL, then one day I decided while replacing the front pads i'll replace the rears too with the same EBC HH sintered compound and hey presto - ive now got a rear brake! - you can lock it up at any speed if you wish!

if I remember, the 800 doesn't have the adjustable levers on it, it's the coffin style master cylinder....
there is a screw that's set in epoxy on the handle (towards the pivot point), you can chip away that epoxy with a pick and take a small screw driver and turn the screw to move the lever to a more comfortable position...
either that or just get use to the new clutch....
might also try bleeding the clutch.....I know it's only got 500 miles on it and it's an '05, but it's something I would do anyways on a new bike....

You are correct sir...the 800 does not have adjustables on it. But, guess I'm just used to mine. I like the brake, but would like to bring the clutch in a little. I'm looking to see if CRG makes some to fit but they're expensive. Great little bike though. 2300 miles on mine and I have been very happy.

Re: (CaliDuc)
For the price of the CRG's you may as well just put a new set of radial masters on the bike. Those are adjustable too...

that's all nice and dandy.....when you have those master cylinders
but I don't believe those levers work with the coffin style master cylinders

Re: (01Sport)
From the MotoWheels website:
Early Ducatis (before 99) have a large hollow 10mm pivot bolt and original black or anthracite adjustable levers. All "coffin style" master cylinders use the large hollow pivot.
Most newer bikes (after 1999) have the small solid 8mm pivot bolt with a flat screwdriver head on the top and silver adjustable levers. Some late model Monsters use the large Hollow pivot. Please select the correct lever on the options list.
It may be something to look into. I am not familiar with your model.

Welcome to the list Eli, looks like you've been riding a while too. I'm in Arlington. Mine is a '99 but lemme know if you have other questions or feel like joining me (and/or my crew) for a 300-400 mile jaunt into the Shenandoahs. Here's my email: <mr_vfr@yahoo.com>

Re: (Vcook)
Doh! Saw them listed for $190 somewhere, didn't realize that was for the PAIR of brake/clutch levers lol.
OK, so radials are a bit more expensive. There is always ebay or classifieds, you can score some oem 749/999 radials cheap there. With a few mods they work nicely on SS's.

I'm a new DC area SS rider also!
Just got a 2002 Senna 900SS. I live in Annapolis, work in NOVA. We should get together sometime. Any of you guys going to Laguna for MotoGP? Me and buddy are riding the bikes to Monterey! Gonna be fun, been looking forward to this for a long time. Taking my Aprilia as the Duc is bone stock and needs some mods to get it where I like my bikes to be.
Hope to meet up with some of you guys........
