Default Open lid airbox vs Pod filters?

I've been running Pod filters ever since I modified my bike/engine last year so I've never run it with my old open lid air-box to see if there is a performance difference. Now that bike is in pieces while frame is repainted I'm wondering if it's worth my while/trouble to stick the air-box back on anyone ever tested both??...........here is what I've done to my 750SS

785cc big bore
39mm FCR's
900ss Cams
Head porting by BCM
Nichole's flywheel

Bruce at BCM recommends using the airbox over the pod filters. they would probably have back to back dyno runs to justify their preferances.

I don't do any dyno testing, but when I've gone from an open airbox to pod filters, I've always had to richen the jetting. The trick is to get the biggest pods you can stuff in there, so you have as much filter area as possible.

Biggest pods you can find? What direction would that be in?

all directions, the largest volume air filter is what you want.

Well I just got my bike back together with the open lid air-box on and took my bike out for a spin and my first impression is..........believe it or not bike seems to have more power and is more wheelie prone than before, of course it's about 45 out today and my bike loves the cooler temps so it won't be a fair comparison till it warms up around here. Only down side is I will miss the ease of maintenance with the pods

I run K&N "pod" filters on my old 900SS with a pair of Keihin 41's and it works nicely. Cleans up the front upper frame area too. I'll check to see if I have the part number for the filters I ordered, but like Norm suggested, I run very long filters to maximize filter surface area - and hence flow.

What about the i.e.s? At least it would clean up the bike a bit right? Anyone try this before?
