Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (mouser830)
They work fine on my 96 SS CR. Of course, it wouldn't do a u-turn on a two lane road to begin with. I have mine mounted below the triple clamp. Form your photo, it looks like that would solve the fairing problem and then you could adjust for the tank. Call or email Cyclecat.
Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (ccolwell)
Below the triple clap would put them lower than stock. 99 and newer mount stock above the triple clamp. Were your stock bars mounted below the triple clamp?
Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (mouser830)
On the older 900SS's the clip-ons are typically mounted below the triple.
I'm not sure what part was hitting the fairing in your case but, if it's the reservoirs you could always mount them to the triple. You'd have to drill and thread the holes to mount them, typically on the bottom, or buy Cyclecats triple which have them already and also get longer hoses from the masters.
Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (chaas67)
Thanks Chris, no the resevoirs were moved inward with the Cycle Cat kit, they clear, the fast idle lever hits the fairing when turning right and the throttle housing hits the fairing when turning left. I adjusted the stops to catch just prior in both cases.
Oh and I meant a big two lane road pushing the bike, no U-turn.
Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (mouser830)
This has been beat to death. It does take some work but you will find a sweet spot with some effort. I didn't change may steering stops at all. The clip-ons have way more adjustment than the bikes bodywork will allow.
Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (mouser830)
There has been more than just that tread posted on the subject, not trying to be a punk!
It really just takes some work to get it where you want. I looked at your pic, and it looks like you have the clutch and brake levers moved as far as they will go to the ends of the grips. Did you get a longer clutch line? I had to have mine in about an inch to keep the line from binding. Also, I couldn't tell from the pic, but is your throttle cable coming off the top, or the bottom? CC has you installing it with the cable coming off the bottom. I found that if you rotate the cable back to the top, like stock, you get a little more room.
All in all, I would say that the kit gave me a 1/2 inch at the forks, and about 2 inches at the bar ends. The biggest improvement came with the change in angle of the clip ons. Not sure how much seat time you had with the stock set, but those became pretty uncomfortable once you've had some time with the CCs.
Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (redduck)
I'll second Redduck's point. Increasing the drop of the bars produces a lot more clearance than you would expect. After moving them from the flattest position to the half way point, I was able to decrease the pullback significantly.
Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (redduck)
The throttle is coming off the bottom, this gives much better clearance for the cable itself, I did not need a longer clutch line, just adjusted the fast idle cable routing a bit.
After really looking I think shorter bars will be a big help and give me much better angle adjustment due to the shorter length and clearance to the fairing and tank. I did not experience a need for longer bars with the stock setup.
It doesn't make sense to pay $290 for a kit that essentially gives little adjustability whe a FBF riser is cheaper, so I intend to make these work as desinged.
I tried contacting Cycle Cat a couple times with no response.
I will remove the bars and shorten them this weekend drilling the throttle and switch locating holes to best fit my application.
Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (mouser830)
Chris got back to me from Cycle Cat, said they are looking at a 2001 right now and have been told by some dealers they bend the fairing support. He agreed that there is little adjustment due to the fairing.
He has offered to sell shorter bars and refund the long ones ( ).
I aksed if there was a technical reason that I could not just shorten these myself, having the equipment to do so and re-drill the locating holes.
Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (mouser830)
Scott, that's what my friend found out; just bend the front fairing/windshield stays up. You can't shorten the bars if you want to be able to use the CycleCat bar ends since they fit into a tapered, machined socket in the end of the bars.

Re: Cycle Cat Bar Risers, anybody have them? (Joe B)
Just got off the phone with Chris at Cycle Cat, he is sending a set of non drilled short bars. I will fit them then drill them. $50 and refunded when the other set is returned.
I made adjustments last night to gain steering travel, ecentrics all the way down, Chris agreed that is what they did at their shop for the one they have in now.
Rode the bike in to work today and the bars are too wide. This will work well, I will post pics when done.
I had them on my 01 Sport and LOVED them....now that I have an 02 900ss I plan on taking off the Heli bars and putting the cycle cats on there....as they are MUCH more comfortable!
Just haven't had the time to mess with it, I put them on and ran into the same problems.....
going from the coffin style to the remote style reservoirs makes a big difference!
I talked with them when I ordered them as well....and they mentioned having to bend the fairing stays a bit as well....
glad to hear about the shorter bars though! Might have to look into that!
I don't know if you have this figured out yet, but here's a few pics of the parts CC includes to move the reservoirs inboard. It includes two brackets, and some longer hose.
