Default FCR problems

so.... i cleaned up my FCRs and replaced the main fuel line tube. I cleaned out EVERYTHING because there was hesitation and stumbling and i figured it was a clogged or dirty jet somewhere. I got them back together on the bench and found a couple of problems. The throttle seems to stick. I dont know if thats cuz i put carb cleaner all over the slide rollers and stuff or what... where should i check? Also... I noticed this before... my idle adjustment hardly does anything... like you can get a turn of adjustment before it bottoms out... that hardly seems to affect the idle. So... whats up with that. Thanks all.

I'd say tri-flow or WD 40 the whole thing; maybe you have a small piece of grit left behind. What slow jet are you using? It's hard to set idle properly if it is way too big (or small). I use a 50 at above 5000' and a 55 at sea level to about 3000' (52 in between obviously). The fuel screw (which works with the slow jet) should give good idle when between 1 and 2 turns out. Are you familiar with the FCR tuning guide on the Factory Pro site? http://www.factorypro.com/tech/carbkei.html

well these carbs used to run great and then the bike sat until i got time to redo it.... nasty nasty accident. So... I just counted how many turns out everything was and put it back exactly like it was. It isnt a matter of like the jetting with the idle... like the screw litterally is in contact with the linkage for one turn before it bottoms out and runs out of threads. I will try the wd40 thing. Thanks!

yeah the wd-4p made everything perfect... i checked and i am getting 2 and 1/8 turns out of the idle adjustment from where it comes in contact with the linkage to where it runs out of threads. Is that what it normally is or what?

Ryan, I get about 5 turns on mine before it stops. The threads then extend out about 1/8". Backing the adjuster all the way out, the linkage touches the boss that the adjuster knob is threaded into. Mine seems to idle correctly when in the range of 1 & 1/2 to 2 turns out. Is the idle adjuster wire running fairly straight? It can get kinked. Sounds like you have them off the bike so that's probably not the problem. Something bent maybe (in the accident)? Let us know if you figure it out.
Good luck, Joe

i talked to chris at ca-cycleworks and he said that since i split the carbs i need to mechanically resync them. Started to try it tonight but it wasnt working out as easily as i had hoped. Guess I will try tomorrow.
