Default steering damper clamps

I am installing a sprint 140mm steering damper as a side mount on my 03 800ss. I had trouble finding the rite clamps to mount the thing but finally found out that the front mounted on the left fork tube at 50mm and the rear??? I eye balled it next to a metric ruler at 20mm, couldn't find a mertic micrometer anywhere. Street and Comp only carry a 22mm and 25mm so I figure the 22 was right. Anyone know for sure what size clamp you need for the frame tube?

Another unrelated problem--- taking off the kick stand for track day, one of the bolts snapped off and now I have to get the remaining stub out? Any suggestions.

thanks in advance,

I'd go to Sears (or wherever else you get your tools) and get a screw extractor. Basically, it's a special bit that you drives itself into the bolt in a reverse direction until eventually it gets in so tight that it starts to back the bolt out.

That being said, I just about stripped the kickstand bolts when I removed them, so I'm not sure how easy this is going to be. Squirting wd40 or liquid wrench into the threads for a while prior to attempting this wouldn't hurt.

What track day are you doing?

Re: The kickstand bolts...I stripped one too. AFTER soaking them in PB Blaster.

Then I broke 2 extractors.

Then a drill bit trying to get those out.

I ended up using a dremel to gind the sides of the bolt into a hex shape, then pounding on an old socket that "roughly" fit. Got my long ratchet on it, and it backed right out.

Pain in the ASS.

Don't know about the damper.

About the bolt, lube it now, this afternoon, this evening and tomorrow. Get a screw extractor kit, and use the largest one that you can... that will reduce your chances of breaking the extractor.

I have been drilling. But its a long process with gradually going up in bit size until I can get a large enough extracting bit in there. Plus my lame battery drill is not powerfull enough. Thinking of getting another that plugs into electrical. May be my bits are too dull. I was going to go to test and tune for bikes at Loudon on Thursday from 1-5 but I don't want to go without a steering damper. Still waiting for clamps.
