Default Brake fluid question

I have a 1999 750SS. I noticed today that there's practically nothing in my brake fluid reservoir. The one on top of the steering AND the one behind the engine...

Which brake fluid should I use? Can I use the same fluid to fill up both reservoirs?

Thank you

Regular old DOT 3 or 4 will work perfectly. They use the same fluid front, rear, and clutch for that matter.

Its a good idea to check these with a least a glance before you ride. Bleeding out the fluid yearly is not a bad idea either. If you haven't changed it since 1999 then you should probably bleed the system thoroughly at this point, front and rear and don't forget about the clutch which uses the same fluid.

Any old DOT 4 will do. Since I enjoy maintenance tasks I change mine annually so the cheap stuff: Prestone from Wal-mart at +/- $1.00 per bottle is fine and has worked fine for me. I can't imagine anything more expensive would do any better with a regular change freqency on a street ridden bike.
